Road Cycling

As an update, my Force 22 / Red 10 speed combo is working perfect.

The 22 front derailleur is so so much better than the Gen 1 Red 10 speed. It just works every time with no hesitation, before it would over shift, or take a while to jump up, or would drop when going big to small. No amount of tweaking or love would make it better you just had to be gentle with it and think about when to change so you didn't rush it.

The rear is the same as the old one, works perfect no dramas.

I did have a little clicking noise in the 28T but I think this was just not having the rear skewer done up very tight as I did that and it's gone away!

Spanner spanner spanner... I've put a new saddle on my best bike - I've got the Cosine (wiggle's own brand) ti endurance saddle, which will get a test this evening. It's got a decent deep cutout, so I'm hoping it'll reduce pressure on my bifkin which seems to be an issue on longer rides. I've also had a fiddle with the gears, after last week's hilly gear slippage debacle, and it looks like things are ok. I've put a new chain on my winter bike, so it's ready in reserve in case anything happens to my commuter. And then I've cleaned the summer bike and the commuter. Phew!

I'm doing a 12 hour next weekend so being reminded about your 300 makes me feel better. :D

Glad to help :p

What's your 12 hour ride again?

What's your nutrition plan for the 300?

Haven't really decided to be honest. I won't have that much storage space and it will be supported ride so partly I'll be reliant on the food they make available at the rest stops (I need to research what I'm likely to find). I think I'll aim to carry at least 500 kcal extra on me at all times though.

Yesterday on the 160 I got lazy about nutrition after 100 miles. This is classic me. I had to stop and grab sugar twice. Once I did I was fine but I was starting to feel very rough around the edges until I did. Definitely need to avoid that on the 300.

It's the ECCA 12 hour TT so will end up looking something like this: https://www.strava.com/activities/19113016 just maybe not quite as far! Need to do some serious planning this week for my support crew (wife and parents been roped in).

Thinking about London Edinburgh London next year though, have you considered it?

That looks pretty horrendous

As does LEL... I'd kind of said to myself that I wouldn't try and do anything ridiculous next year but...hmm... It does sound kind of interesting :) If you're doing it and fancy a ride partner I could be tempted...

I went out this evening to test my new saddle. It's ok. The weather wasn't. Horrible crosswinds, then headwinds, then crosswinds again, then finally some tailwind as I turned home, at which point it started pouring down. And it was dark. Rubbish. Good job I'd just cleaned my bike! Sigh.

It was quite nice this morning but it seems like the weather has gradually gotten worse throughout the day. Listening to the sound of rain outside right now (which admittedly is quite soothing when I'm nice and dry inside :p).

uv had that saddle for a bit and found it a bit to tough for his delicate derriere. Quite interested to hear how you get on with it on longer rides :)

Yeah, didn't want to badmouth the saddle until Von had been out on it himself, but I didn't get on with it personally. Anything over a metric on it caused me some grief.

The Mrs got me a Brooks Cambium (C15 carved), and it feels like a hammock full of cotton wool in comparison. The difference isn't that noticeable until 40 miles or so, but after the 160 at the weekend I've got no butt pain, which is nice.

Insane winds today, tempting to wuss out and get the train to work :p

I found it OK. One side of my bum felt fine, the other rubbed a bit, but I think that's because I sit a bit crooked - I get the same feeling on my other saddles! Clearly something for me to sort out! Still, it was only £28, so if it doesn't work out for me it's not a huge loss, it's not like buying a Fi'z~i!!k for eleventy billion pounds.

Wind this morning was horrendous. Absolutely dire.

I picked up a charge spoon for about £25 and it seems to be as comfy as any of the other saddles I've got, most of which cost a lot more

Hmm, not sure on that helmet but maybe as part of the team kit.:p

What happened with your Di2?

Doesn't it automatically drop to the small ring if the battery dies?

House move went 'well'! Just usual painful things - dishwashers removed which should've been left, broken plugs/switches, dodgy curtain rails held up with 1 nail & half a screw, broken water outlet to washing machine with a ceased stopcock-tap. Marks all over the walls/blinds/curtains and terrible painting around pictures/wardrobes!

We were expecting to repaint some parts but thinking we'll now just decorate from top to bottom. 'Easy' to do and something we'll take our time over (as I'm a perfectionist when it comes to things like dinks/holes/straight curtain rails etc). Garage isn't really the turbo-den I had wanted but has a large 'wasted' area behind it with patio slabs. Going to gate this off (dog proof) and could put a lean to for underneith autumn/spring turboing. When it's really cold I w/could use the garage.

Green machine is going well, did a little loop saturday but legs were very un-average after the move day. Back to proper riding today/this week to get myself back on target! Not that I have a target as still 250+ miles up on my pace for the year/goal. :D

They're not Pro 4s any more, they're POWER. Goodness only knows why.
Because Power>Endurance!
I think it's because that's what you lose now they've substantially increased the rolling resistance.
Really?! Much of the marketing was around them being faster? Remember a review where they got loads of guys to ride a circuit on the Endurance V1/2 and then the Powers?
I'm not far away but won't have time to drop in. Though I will be at their MK store collecting on Sunday ;)
Ooooh, what did you get?! :D

This is a fairer representation of it. It looks pretty constant in terms of gradient, a constant ~10% for a mile.
Nice! Actually tempting me now... Only an hour-ish away by car...
Of course you will. I remember the days when Roady was a noob. ;)
Not that long ago really! :p

Quite nice you're now considering me a non-noob, thanks buddy! :D ( :gushing: )

Yes, I think the internal junction box either broke, or disconnected. I still had lights on the front junction box at time, and the battery must have been still there as like you say, it stayed in big ring. Frustrating, but don't think I'd have got much out of that race anyway. Legs weren't really there if I'm honest.
