Road Cycling

i'd have snapped it up if it was a senisble saddle colour

160 miles done. Wasn't really that bad aside from failing to manage my food quite as well as I should. I had two points at about 110 and 140 miles where I felt like I would've bonked if I'd pushed much further without eating more (also I ran out of food at the same time :p). Stopped at a pub and ate all the sugar, suddenly riding was easy again.

Off to grab some beer and pizza to aid with recovery.

Looking at your Strava track, I'd guess you stopped at my local

110km for me and a couple of friends yesterday. Was tired when I got home, as I've not been over ~60km since May but didn't feel that bad. Had tea last night but by 21:30 I was hurling it all back into the toilet :( Possibly the worst night's sleep ever, so stayed at home today but the new bathroom is ongoing so there's no peace and quiet

It has a steeper bit at the end of 8-10% but as long as you're prepared and have a 28T or compact on the back then you can ride it.
Luls. Steep is 10%+? ;)

You're right though - if you're hitting steep stuff then you really need to consider your gearing. I like my steep challenges so I'm running 32's and wouldn't consider anything else (although when I sort my deeper rims I'll probably stick a 28t on them). Longer ~10% climbs I do use my 32 but only for variations in cadence/seated/spinning, the majority of the time I'd be in my 28-30. There's a hill leading to my parents place I like to put efforts into the first half and then I just sit and spin 36*32 up the latter part recovering - I spin out the lactate and start my cooldown as I have to stop soon after! Spinny spinny spinny! When tired/drained I'll use my 32t loads, especially on bad road surfaces!
I had to stop and grab sugar twice. Once I did I was fine but I was starting to feel very rough around the edges until I did. Definitely need to avoid that on the 300.
Boshing sugar isn't really a longer term solution?! I tend to go for more carb things than just sugar...
May have picked one of these up over the weekend...:o
It matched the team kit too well so it was rude not to.

Anyone after a black/red Evade in medium?
Looks awesome & will match the Paceline orange bits well! :D

Which sizing is it? 54-60cm? Let me check mine, although I normally wear a Large.
I don't even want know what "glushing" is
Nor me, now the moments passed. :p

Too many gels? Or a virus? Hope you're feeling better soon!

I said steeper, not steep!

There are some areas of more than 10% but when the climb is more than 400m in length the graph is skewed a bit so these are hard to see :p

I was under the impression that Di2 locks the front ring first when the battery goes, and then leaves you in whatever cog you were in at the back when it fully dies.

Does that even count as a road???

Its totally overgrown! Looks brutal. But pretty cool.
Risking repeating myself - it's an old track near where I grew up to an ex RAF spotting station (to catch bombers flying up the Radnor Valley on their way to the dams/reservoirs at Elan Valley). AFAIK there is no station there (just some remains & some of a downed RAF plane - never found either). For some reason it's tarmac'd! I've been down it several times, but only up once (in a tractor). Some crazy fools created a segment on it and I know a guy who rode it (he walked part) so always wanted to give it a try! Defo a challenge! ;) :D
Looks fun! Several false flats! :D
Maple? Seen that stuff I see Ted King banging on about - some kinda natural maple syrup type energy gels?

I thought it changed down but then usually doesn't have the power to change back into the big ring? Does it even try?

Just had my first home-lunchtime commute. 8 minutes to get changed, 8 mins 30s to get home, lunch & play with the dog. 7 mins race back to work (to see how quick I can do it) & 10 minutes to get changed/recover as much as possible. My hours lunchtime flew past! Can't see me doing the 7 minute hammer to work very often (have the mrs in tow in the mornings and being a sweaty mess when at work isn't very appealing) but the hammer home will happen frequently! ;)

Previously commuted 2*4.4 miles a day, now 4*2.4 miles. I'd clocked it on googlemaps as 1.5 miles, thinking I'd be doing less miles per day (which was totally wrong)! Not much in it though! ;)

Hi guys,

Just about to pull the trigger on a road bike, will be my first proper roadie (been using by Trek hybrid for last 3 years). Hoping to start commuting (around 11 miles, country roads) at least a couple of times a week.

Any advice on things I should be looking out for? Not really dont much serious cycling before in my like, my local LBS is about 2 miles up the road, so shall pop in there when I get the bike.

Cheers

Decide on your budget and probably drop into your LBS to chat with them to see what they suggest? Many LBS have trade ins and bargains this time of year - many brands have their 2017 models released/on the horizon, so there are many deals on 2016 years' bikes!

EDIT: How's this for a 25 mile TT.
