Road Cycling

I was sold on Ultegra but you've made me reconsider..damn you :p

I'm back on weight loss and generally not just doing training that is about endurance now so I suppose that will benefit me more than the 70g I'll get from the Ultegra anyhow...

Ultegra Cranks and Brakes, 105 Derailleurs.

How many cassettes are you guys getting through per year that a ~£15 price hike on a Ultegra over 105 cassette is worth worrying about? ;)

Oh I thought this was derailleurs. Cassettes I usually go Ultegra tbh as if you change chain regularly enough they don't even wear. Pro Peloton teams can go a whole year without replacing cassettes.

Wow... that's gone up a tad. I paid £35 for an Ultegra cassette earlier in the year.

My chain was a little past .75 when I changed it last week so hoping I haven't worn out the cassette as well.

It's definitely gone up - the price difference was less than £20 last time.

I don't get as good a wear out of my cassettes as I could do. Seemingly having to change every 6k miles so just under two cassettes per year.

Fairly easy to spot wear on cassettes (same as chainrings really).

I've got 2 105 cassettes, one has done probably 5000 miles and the teeth hardly show any wear... My regular changing of chains is probably the only reason (it's seen at least 5). :o

VonH, think this is one for you. Can I buy just a wheel on bike 2 work or a groupset?

It depends... You can get an "accessory package" on some schemes, which allow you to get accessories without getting a bike, but you aren't really supposed to get "components". Wheels or a groupset probably fall into that definition. At that point you may be into the realms of finding a bike shop that will write down "Specialized Allez" on the form while handing you your wheels, at which point all bets are off really!

HAHa he obviously rides fixed a lot as getting his feet back in was a work of art.

It's quite easy actually ive done this a couple time of course not superman but both feet off. Just about matching pedals unless pedals are broken it will always be the right side up in motion. I find it easier to clip in fixed than my roadie since cranks are always automatically in motion.

I have a 20% off voucher from my phone contract supplier, and they have the following speed/cadence sensor at the price of £25.60 (after discount)..

Are they worth having, I use Strava on my android phone, so I assume I can pair them up, and integrate the data into my strava stuff?

Some of the Sportive 'extras' are an absolute joke. Heard of one where you had to pay extra for food stops & a drink at the end! :o

Going anywhere nice?

First one I did was water made available by the pubs that hosted the stops and the food stop was a PTA fund raiser effort at a local high school  At least this one included lunch and they provided the drink stops!

Yeah I'd never normally buy a photo but A) I wasn't looking like a complete gonk and B) it was in a nice spot on the ride with one of the local broads in the background so I thought... what the hell! Also meant I could replace my facebook photo that dated back to 2010 :o

Nope, nowhere nice. 10 days in Nairobi unfortunately :(

That reminds me, saw a fixie rider on the 315 mile route. What on earth were they thinking?

They didn't complete :p
Because 'Landaaan'? :p:rolleyes:

Depends on the sensor & Strava. I think Strava will now connect to BT sensors but research it first! Particularly your mobile and ANT+/BT (to confirm it'll work before you purchase).

Which sensor is it? Garmin?

Still better than here (it's raining & miserable)! ;)

I really need a new Strava/Cycling photo too, my current a year ago after my first sportive! :o
