Was it a wooden door? might be time to get a reinforced composite door fitted to prevent it happening again. Sounds like they were in a rush so might have tried a different house if the door didn't go in in a few kicks.
Won't go into details but it was a design/installation fault/weakness.
Then again, no matter what you do, if they want to get in the will. Its just a case of making it as hard as possible in the hope they decide its too much hassle and find an easier target.
. Luckily for me I had only recently reformatted it, so didn't lose anything precious.
If the house isn't alarmed and secure, you'd better get it done quickly as there's a good chance they'll be back if they left that lot.
