ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO

Anybody know how to find out what chips are on my RAM without removing my heat spreader?

Tried HWINFO/CPU-Z and WMIC commands but manufacturer only shows Corsair.
AIDA64 shows for my corsair Samsung...However You can check version on the label 4.x is Samsung, 5.x is hynix

Anybody have the same modules with Samsung memory? If so how are you faring? Probably not worth me returning them i guess.

So i built my system updated the bios installed the kraken with the am3 bracket seemed to go on well took a bit of messing about.

System took a while to boot but posted got CPU temp warning said it was running at 94 degrees which I know is not right but then I could feel some heat and the system shut off the CPU.

So I think the cooler is not fitting properly so have to wait for the am4 bracket so very disappointed

anyone using the Crosshair VI hero x370 with the M.2 960 Evo, any issues?

No I had no issues with it. On the contrary was working faster than on the Z170 Formula OC.

However I had to return my C6H today. Last night decided to shut down as I was playing, and since then cannot boot it up.
The error code 8 is showing and nothing else :(

Tried numerous times to flash it with 0902, 1001, 0038, removed battery and power, re installed the CPU. Nothing.

iv been reading here and elsewhere about lots of issues on various bios with overclocking. what about stock, both cpu and ram, are there the same amount of bugs?

jesus wept that makes me nervous as an imminent board buyer.

Have you tried reseating it? Making sure the screws that go into the back plate are as tight as they can be?

Not tried re seating it but the screws are in all the way I think itd the actual bracket so just gonna wait for the new brackets to come out but not happy

I didn't overclock mine. It was a 1700X running at stock speeds. Even the 3600Mhz ram was working at 2133 profile.
The main issue was not stability etc but the damn motherboard having a fit every so often, by just restarting the PC as happened earlier last night and took me an hour to make it boot. But the second time it just died the moment I was playing WOT, after I had watched the 8K video everyone was raving about. Everythined tried on it, was coming up with error 8 and thats it. (fans were spinning).

Maybe you will be luckier like everyone else. However I ended up on the 50% of the failures and bricked motherboards.

However 22 years I am building and overclocking my own new PCs every 8-12 months, and having build hundreds for clients over the years, first time I am experiencing such issues. Except once around 2005-6 with another Asus board, but not that severe issue, managed to stabilize my clients PC after BIOS update and he hadn't reported to me back with issues.

Don't get me wrong. The product and tech is great, see all the others having their systems overclocked chewing every task on their path.

I used an ARCTIC Freezer 13 as it supports AM4 before using the AM3 back plate, good cooler for £20. If the AM4 bracket it going to take a long time to come out it's a low-cost option and a good backup cooler.

Yeah either way I'm going to have have to take the motherboard out which is a pain..

Also I installed the Hue+ it had power my fans worked but nothing was lighting up do I have to do this in the software?

My Phantek RGB strips are plugged into the mobo using the Phantek Aura converter cables, they light up on power up and do random stuff until Windows load the Asus service, then they change to whatever they have been set to. Just looked at the kraken cooler's mounting kit, it looks like the same one the h100i V2 uses, are you sure you used the correct standoffs?

Yeah I'm sure I used the correct ones it seems to be seated properly but it was not easy to get it there.. So I'm guessing it's not seated properly but everything else powered up so that's a good sign.

Just need to know why the Hue didn't light up anything although it had power.

What idle temps are people seeing in the bios? Just powered my pc on today for the first time and sat in the bios with a cup temp of 50/51. Now if that's with the 20 offset that's fine but I keep reading different information on whether bios 1001 still has the offset or not.

I could be wrong about the lights, just restarted the PC and lights did not come on until I logged in to Windows? They definitely did work before I installed the software?

Update:
Did a full shut down, lights did come on at power up so restart is different?
