Rollercoaster Tycoon World

I've been looking forward to this (like most others in this thread!) since hearing about it, but that video was very uninspiring. It doesn't seem like they've made much effort to improve the game at all.

I would much rather have an HD version of 1 and 2 released with new parks/shops/rides/staff etc than this.

Hopefully things will improve further though!

The original screenshots of RCTW that surfaced months ago looked really good. But it seems that they were made by a different developer and that it had been scrapped.

RCT3 on left, original RCTW concept art on right.

Pipeworks pulled out of development, Enter Area 52 Games.
And now we have this.

If anyone is interested, Pipeworks original screenshots can be found here. http://www.rctgamer.com/tag/rctw/
One for the 80% off steam sales me thinks.

I know graphics aren't everything but when games are so lazily made in this area then it deserves to fail.

I'd honestly be embarrassed to work on it and probably question why i am in the industry.

Being honest, there was always a hope, but never an expectation.

The only thing that bothers me in the slightest, is to the day, Atari are pitching this as a AAA release.

RTC's greatness comes from it's simple fun, flavours 1, 2 or 3... graphics 2/3d.

But it is 2015, there's those screen's from whenever which would represent the day, age, and AAA.

I think they ought to learn from the classic games (1 & 2) that being simpler in some areas isn't a bad thing...

The indie gaming scene lately has brought forward lots of titles which copy the core design style of older simpler games but apply more modern techniques and polish - for example Shovel Knight, Mark of the Ninja etc....

If they kept it more or less like 1 & 2 (i.e. grid world with just 4 isometric viewpoints you can rotate between) but instead of the (admittedly charming) pixel sprites they could either use some HD sprites or maybe some nicely made 3d models...

That's pretty much it, not many things about the rest of the game would need to change at all - maybe add a few more attractions and create a bunch of new maps and scenarios and boom - instant classic...

I think that's what hurts about how this looks so far - it would be so easy to do this one right... So easy

Things seem to have improved on this front since I last checked it back when this thread was made. Area 52 who were developing it when those other videos/screenshots were made were replaced by Nvizzio Creations, who are now working on it.

I like that they've incorporated Steam Workshop support as well, that has improved Cities Skylines a lot with all the extra user-made content you can get.

Still to be 100% convinced that this will be a success, but definitely paying it a bit more interest now.

There is a game in development still "Theme Park Studio" which is so very close, and doesn't look bad at all.

Also the most promising about this is that it has steam workshop integration already, Doubt Rollercoaster Tycoon World will ever get anything like that.

The screenshots on Steam for Rollercoaster Tycoon World look fine to me... ?

Also, Frontier only made RCT3, not the original or 2. Chris Sawyer isn't involved with either this or Planet Coaster.

Hmm, that does indeed look interesting. Also, Rollercoaster Tycoon World is having Steam Workshop support. It's mentioned in the video I posted a bit further up :)

So between Rollercoaster Tycoon World, Theme Park Studio and Planet Coaster, it looks like there's some decisions to be made!
