It's widely being reported that Rooney and Fergie have fallen out.

Rooney will not sign a contract extension, and at the end of this season he will be in the last year of his contract.

Alledgedly he wants £160k a week too.

Well it's not hard to see why they have fallen out.

Drinking/smoking/prostitutes, poor form for England and United.

So what will happen?

Surely only Man city, Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid can afford his wages and huge transfer fee.

Myself I cannot belive this bloke, I know he's only 24 and he's paid far too much money, It's like Gazza 2, he's on self destruct

I can see him going to Madrid a la Becks.

I can't. Mourinho wouldn't tolerate that kind of behaviour from a player any more than Fergie would. I could be wrong though.

I could see him going across Manchester though to partner up with Tevez again.

He can barely speak english let alone learn Spanish. If he goes anywhere it will be in this country. Madrid and Barca will just be used by his agent to get a bigger wage at united or elsewhere.

What's Spainish or errrrrrmmm.

Could anyone see Becks speaking spanish though (at the time he left Utd) , not that different to the situation now imo

Whether City bid or not, I cant see Utd accepting any kind of money from them so its a non-starter (even considering the club-debt, actually saying that....Sheik, you pay off Utd's debt and we will give you Rooney might JUST work :D)

Going abroad might just help him - as I believe his woes are more mental than physical anyway (ie not listening/understanding radio/tv/newspapers would help him relax more), but given that Colleen's sister is meant to be very ill, I cant see her wanting to move away....

If Rooney goes it wont be to another EPL club, however much City/Chelsea offer (and Chelsea need him even less than City do)

take the money and run.

rooney has never come close to repeating the form and dynamo power he showed on his debut. he had a decent season last year but given the trouble he has caused and the type of person he is, Coatto, he will only bring more problems.

get the cash, consolidate the midfield.

Guardian reckons Man City this morning. He'd be mental to go there, and would Ferguson really sell to an English club?
Something wrong with the two other threads this is being discussed in? Oh and txt speak really?
Eh, makes sense to put it another thread. It's a big story if it keeps gaining steam.

He doesn't have a choice if he decides he wont sign a new deal. Madrid can offer 100 million but if Rooney would prefer to stay in this country he has to sell to whoever Rooney wants to go to.

Fergie would hold most of the aces if Ronney didn't have 18 months left on a deal. School boy error to let it run that low. They now have to sell wherever Rooney fancies or risk having him worth far less come the end of the year.

Its reported that he's upset but the lack of ambition the club have shown in the transfer market and how much funds are made available. he has a point to be honest.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but according to the independent here rooney could buy out the remainder of his contract next summer for £5mil and man u would only be eligible for a small amount of compensation, hence they would get basically nothing for him. This adds some credibility to the idea that they will offload him in january as it's their last chance to make money from him.

Its the Glazer's new policy to allow contracts to run so low before re-negotiating

Who would lose more, Utd trying to force Rooney to go abroad or Rooney if he sits on the bench for 18 months? The Glazers would never be able to force a sale to City, it just wont happen (just look at the furore with Tevez and then Utd didnt even really have a choice, and never owned CT to start with - it would be 10 times worse if Rooney was to try it)

A sale to Chelsea or Arsenal for 1/4 of the cash would be far more palatable by everyone concerned. I wouldnt be surprised to see him Madrid bound in exchange for Benzema and Diarra + £20m or something (both players SAF is rumoured to admire, and the team need). Personally think Benzema isnt as good as Hernandez so why get a duplicate, and I prefer Mohammed Diarra, unfortunately its more likely to be the ex Pompey/Arsenal player

The only thing Rooney has to complain about IS the lack of ambition from the club's recent signings point of view. Midfield has been crying out for advanced creativity for at least two summers, and there should already be a replacement for VDS waiting at OT (to say the very least - VDS has done great, dont get me wrong - but it shouldnt have been left this long)

To be fair you can't demand 160k whilst performing like you should be in the conference.

yea but going by that logic its not like we are going to try and sell him for conference money either is it?

you need to protect your assets. something we have failed to do here, with dramatic consequences looming.

So much for, 'Young players can come to UTD, fergie will keep them on track, we could have sorted Gazza no probs'

thankfully this nonsense will be put to bed once and for all. fergie is just as terrible at man management as the rest, of not worse. after all, look at all the personal bust ups he's had over the years.

But as I said above, Rooney can simply buy out his contract in the summer for £5mil so he definitely wouldn't be sitting on the bench for 18 months.

The other thing I don't want to happen is for us to go charging in with an obscene bid and give United the chance to make a more general squad improvement whilst we're sat about on our hands waiting for him to regain form. I'd rather he stayed there having his barney and then someone (couldn't really care who) picks him up next summer for peanuts.

Not that, if the amount of 'cash reserves' (or loan fund, we) for transfers is true, Rooneys sale money would be anymore likely to go towards a squad rebuild than paying down the debt mind.
