Rooney has just been stretchered off. OH NOOO

its all just covering and saving him from all the pressure.

if they say he wont go then people may accept it and leave it be ... then he will come out and say weyhey im ready.

looking on a possible bright side of it

Im still hoping its a very clever "media" move from sir alex.

 ;)

Well if its anything like his quote in the Liverpool vs Man U pre match press conference when he said keane was not fit to play then the very same Keane started the match, I guess there is nothing to worry about then :D

its just a bid to save him from all the mad frenzied pressure.

he said weeks ago that rooney shouldnt be the foundation for our world cup.

rooney will be ready for the games after 3group games.

i agree with what sir alex says about gerrard lampard beckham neville.. these players should be shouldering all the hype.

i.e. these players should be running the show in terms of responsibility and for the younger peers. rooney should be looking to them, not the other way around.

i was a bit dissappointed when gerrard was being a bit too negative when he was talking about the world cup without rooney

Gerards goal at the weekend was superb though.
For me i feel Lampard, Terry, Cole, and Gerrard will be well up for it this year.
Beckham worrys me to be honest but i am pretty sure with it being his last world cup he will pull out all the stops to perform well. As far as Neville goes he is an old campaigner that brings steady shoulders.
Just the above players give me a team to get behind and that's without the others. :)

It's a shame, but hopefully he'll be back for the knock-out stages :)

With regard to replacements, there arn't any although i have a feeling that defoe could be very good for us. I would also take king over carrack in the holding mid-field role as he makes less stupid errors than carrack

Keep joe cole on the left, and let him run at goal, cut inside and do what he is good at, shots from the edge or just inside the penalty area.
Owen is a bit hit and miss, but that could also mean a chance for bent to show his stuff, as i think crouch is a ****** waste of space!

6 weeks to go. YAY !

I don't know who carrack is but Carrick has been pretty solid this season and King is injured.

I'd rather see either Lampard or Cole or possibly Lampard and Gerrard playing in behind Owen with Carrick behind them and Cole and Beckham on the wings.

If all these players are available this would be my first choice for the group stages

---------------Robinson---------------

Neville---Ferdinand-----Terry-------Cole

----------------Carrick----------------

Beckham---Gerrard---Lampard------Cole

----------------Owen-----------------

Aye , I dont really see carrick as a DM mind , doesnt look that way for spurs.
Midfield wise we are blessed with a host of very good central midfielders , how you accomodate them however is an entirlely different problem.
He's got ghonerhea at the minute like but Scott Parker would fill that role well.

He won't be fit for the WC though will he? Not that Sven would take him anyway.

I like Gillys idea, but if England get into that all defensive mode they seem to like so much, then Owen (if fit) will be stuck on his todd upfront. Not something he is good at.

Anyway, I think it would be a waste of time to take Rooney now. It took him 14 weeks to recover from it last time and this one looked worse than that.

With the formation above I'm thinking Cole, Carrick and Beckham playing 3 across and Gerrard and Lampard playing in front of them, with Owen up top. Suppose its almost a xmas tree formation.

You could drop Gerrard back alongside Carrick and play a flat four and push Lamps up top though.

Thought Cole had scored 10 goals this season??

Quite a few of those were very good finishes too

Woot for J cole.

He is fine on the left wing chipping in with the odd goal, but one of your MAIN goal threats for christ sake?

Its one of the major problems i have with the likes of Crouch and Heskey playing up front.
They are not a genuine goal threat, there is no room in any team for a striker who cant score goals.
Forget 1 in the hole, one playing off, one playing deep, 5 across midfield ,diamonds, christmas trees...... blah blah blah.

4-4-2 Owen and A.Goalthreat ,I.E Darren Bent, even Marlon Harewood and Jason "not very good" Roberts.
Each and every one has goals in them, isnt a make shift make do solution, all have pace, all can finish, all are STRIKERS who know what they need to be doing.
You can replace the spud faced scouse Rhino* with a show pony like cole, you have to look at what Rooney brings to the team and try and replace some of what he does.

What we need is someone who can offer his pace and power, carry his goal threat.
