rooney's red card incident (video clip)

Well the only true source would be rooney or ronaldo so I very much doubt theres much truth in it.

It is impossible to believe a word the scroat utters anyway, have a look at his post match interview.10 seconds after the ref has blown the whistle for a foul he went to the ref to tell him it was a foul
He either knew well before the match that he is not coming back to Man U or he is as stupid as he is arrogant

Rooney is pathetic, he cries like a kid when things don't go his way.

I would sell Rooney and keep Ronaldo as hes much better than Rooney imo.

Wow, just started reading the start of this thread and honestly wish I hadn't bothered. Mainly down to complete and utter dung posts like this, i'll wager 99% of the trolling will be coming from people north of the border, no surprises there then.

I don't think there has been much, if any, trolling in this thread.

I disagree, plenty of earlier posts are basically a load of crap purely posted to spark a reaction.

Either that or we have some seriously disillusioned members, which I accept is a distinct possibility.

I honestly think the latter is the case :(

well, for what it's worth; it certainly looked like a stamp to me. it's all very political, and neither of the players involved (Rooney/Ronaldo) were in the right throughout the game. At the start (although it made for excellent watching :D) it was highly unsportsmanlike for Ronaldo to be goading Rooney - personally i think he knew he was going to wind him up and get him sent off before they even got on the pitch.

Watching replays before the stamp...Rooney appeared to be being a little dirty, wrestling with the other players to the ground - i'm no expert but i thought football was supposed to be non-contact.

like i said, neither player's in the right...both as bad as each other, but Portugal got away with it and we didnt. it'd be just as unfair if we'd gotten away with it and won.

Football has never been non-contact.

Not even FIFA have managed to **** it up that much.

fair enough, but you can hardly call that good sporting conduct to drag other players to the ground by their shirts. if he gets tackle by 2 players and loses his footing, he shouldn't be dragging other people to the ground then stamping on them to gain the advantage.

i don't want to say too much on it, or get into a debate about it, because as is obvious - i don't know the ins and outs, but i know what i saw.

Not particularly good sportmanship, but it's natural instinct to reach out for something if you fall backwards.

After reading through this whole thread, I think that Rooney was perhaps aware of where his foot was going, and that he shouldn't have pushed Ronaldo, but neither should have been a straight red card. Ronaldo is partly to blame becuase no player should run up to the ref like he did. English players may do it as well, but that's no excuse, and his action is provoking. As for his post match interview, it's rubbish that he said it "shouldn't be a red card, just a foul" to the ref, you can see that in the replay.
I'd like to see Ronaldo stay at Man U purely for the reacions he'd get from the fans.

* edit - also, why would Rooney push Ronaldo if Ronaldo was simply saying it was only a foul?? Surely there would have to be more to what Ronaldo said for Rooney to react like that.

I don’t think people are seeing the big picture here. Ronaldo supposedly going up to the ref is irrelevant, Rooney's foul deliberate or accidental was a sending off. England would still have lost, if it wasn’t the Rooney sending off it would have been something else to moan about. Its always bloody excuses with England. Face the facts you were never good enough.

agreed, England where not good enough and Rooney was totally crazy for that stamp - he deserves a 3 match ban and he'll probably get it.

It will be interesting to see now how they qualify for Euro 2008 - not an easy group by any means - Croatia, Russia, Israel in the group.

weather rooney was on or not
they should have done better on pentilies and they messed up real bad
so move one ,stop excusing the way the whole team played

England played a far, far better game than the Portugese, 1 man down and Hargreaves and Lennon and co were still well into the portugese half creating half chances...while Portugal waited for the counter attacks, got scared of John Terry and whacked the ball from 30 yards out instead, hoping for a lucky deflection.

Probably Englands best performance of the tournament.

As for Ronaldo, he's either very dumb/ignorant or he's definitely leaving Manchester United and hopefully, the country. Disgraceful behaviour from the begining of the game, a new low for him...and that's saying a LOT.

Scum. :)

A 3 match ban for something that may not have been deliberate. No one here can say for sure. Reasonable doubt is enough to get you off murder but not a possible stamping on here :p

I watched the video twice and thought it was on purpose. I watched it a third and a fourth time and started to realise that rooney was repositioning his foot so he could move to the right towards the ball.

You can tell this by looking at how his feet move together and by doing this you can see how they are being positioned in a way in which he is positioning rather than stamping.

The way things turned out have been incredibly unfair for Rooney, he had to hold up front by himself with the crazy 4-5-1 formation so it's no surprise he lashed out at Ronaldo by pushing him considering the frustration he was feeling.

If you watch the clip of Ronaldo's interview you can tell he's lying through his teeth and avoiding questions by just saying "Rooney is my friend and I have great respect for him" etc. The fact he stutters and uses bad English is testamount to his guilt, even if he is foreign and may not have good English you can still tell the stuttering is for other reasons.

Also the clip of Ronaldo talking in Rooney's ear is clearly an attempt at intimidation if i've ever seen one.
