Roy Hodgson

Have just checked Liverpool's away form in the second half of 09/10 season to compare it against the first half of this season since Liverpool fans were in uproar about Roy's away form. Not surprised to see that in 2010, 2 away league games were won, one by each manager! (Benitez won against Burnley)

Strange

I'll bite - look at all the available stats. Roy's Liverpool had lost 7 games away from home by the end of 2010. Rafa's Red's lost 8 all season. Rafa won a total of 5 away games last year, Roy's team haven't looked like they could win another game away from home in 2011!

Roy was brought in to improve on last season he failed to do that.

Don't pay any attention to him. The only difference between him and DM (when it comes to Liverpool) is that he doesn't need to write an essay to get his bs across.

Isn't the second half of last season is the best judge of where the team were at pre-Hodgson? It looks to me that the away form was identical, loads of 0 - 0's or 1 - 1's or losses. Also you can only judge Roy on the half season he was there, so best to compare it directly to the half season just before he arrived.

I guess we'll see it change under Kenny if you guys are so sure that it was Hodgson's fault, I'm not convinced but we'll see at the end of the season!

Edit - I'm not bending stats here to fit my agenda, I'm simply taking facts as facts and comparing this half season to the once directly before it, in an attempt to understand the rage behind Roy's away form.

Yes, check the stats and check what he said, not LAST SEASON, but the SECOND HALF OF LAST SEASON.

I've said it many times, away form disolved UNDER BENITEZ, not Hodgson, every single stat shows this.

Year before last, it was 3 years in a row you won between 13-16 away games a season, last season you won 5, 4 of those were in the first half of the season. If you look at European results and cup results aswell it gets even worse as you failed to beat some miserably bad teams in europe and the cup after xmas last season.

Benitez won a single away game in the 2010 CALENDER year, Hodgson did the same. Benitez won 20 points in the first 10 games at home last season, Hodgson did the same this season, from a worse starting point, as in, the first 7-9 games or something were horrific, and this was a team starting to find a new way, the second 8-9 games were MASSIVELY improved and you moved way up the table, one loss doesn't change that, especially as it was away.

It wasn't Benitez OR Hodgson who ruined away form, it was a certain striker who can't be bothered to do more than kick the other players away from home, and a certain red carded midfielder who couldn't pull out a decent performance away from home.

Though I would still blame Benitez for that as, he left the club with one real striker and Babel/Ngog as backup, no one else forced him to sell Bellamy, Crouch, everyone else and buy utter rubbish to replace them with. Hodgson wasn't given the choice to waste around 11mil on Babel IIRC, or buy Maxi, etc, etc.

Benitez built a team 100% reliant on Torres AND Gerrard having a GREAT game EVERY game to do well in the league, when those two stopped performing, so did Liverpool. Chelsea are suffering the same thing, they built a team reliant on Lampard to be great every game all year without fail, or be utterly utterly rubbish without him. Arsenal, Utd don't rely on any single player, or any 3 single players, they still pull out results.

I don't blame Torres or Gerrard either, I hate both, massively, cheats, Torres kicks everyone and Gerrard tries to kill everyone, and both dive like gits. But Torres is essentially playing with the pressure that, he scores, Liverpool go to europe, make money and manager stays, he fails to perform the team sucks, the team drops down the table, the manager gets fired, the fans get upset and the club loses loads of money. Its not unreasonable that a player with that kind of pressure on them will fail to perform frequently and be incredibly unhappy.

Crouch was actually offered a 4 year contract, but wanted to leave because of his girlfriend missing London, hence the move down south. Benitez wanted him to stay. Babel was superb at Ajax, I don't think you could predict that he didn't turn out the way everyone expected him to, he still shows some elements of his game which held him in such high regard at Ajax. Maxi was £1.5m, he barely had any money to spend.

Purslow is the one your looking to blame. Benitez barely got any money from the transfers, especially with regards to Alonso, and he had his hands tied as to when he could play Aquilani due to the way the payment plan was structured due to appearances.

You are bending the stats. Here are the facts for 2010:

Rafa - 1 win, 6 draws and 3 defeats (Jan - May 2010)
Roy - 1 win, 2 draws and 7 defeats (Aug - Dec 2010)

Who had the better record?

10 league games away from home under Hodgson: 1 win, 2 draws and 7 defeats.
Benitez's last 10 away games: 2 wins, 5 draws and 3 defeats.

And if you look beyond that tiny period:
Hodgson has won 12 games away from home in 6 seasons in England.
Liverpool won 13 league games away from home in the 08/09 season alone.

The biggest issue Hodgson faced was fans keep kidding themselves that Liverpool were a side that should have finished 2nd but got incredibly unlucky last season, so Hodgson should have been aiming for the top 4 at worst, top 2 at best and being any lower than that was complete failure.

Hodgson was WELL on course for coming in 7-8th this season, but Liverpool fans will kid themselves, when Dalglish beats someone at home and moves up 16 places due to the ridiculous nature of the league this year, it will prove Hodgson was awful and they'll finish exactly where Hodgson was going to finish, then they'll set themselves up for a failing next season when they again fail to come close to the top 4, which will be the new managers fault as they'll see Dalglish's amazing feat of taking them to 7-8th as proof that if he was there from the start they'd have finished top 4.

The only times fans get dissappointed is when they delude themselves into the teams actual ability.

Fair enough, didn't count up Roy's draws and losses, Rafa did get 4 more points which is ok. Just to re-iterate, it'll be interesting to see the away form between now and the end of the season to see if it was Roy's fault or not once and for all.

If you then take into account the type of football and the poor performances overall you'll begin to understand the rage against Roy.

Ok, as you may be able to imagine I've kinda avoided watching lots of Liverpool this season, so can't really talk to you about performances as I've only seen a handful.

6 more points actually. We only had 9 games away from home from January to May but had 1 on 29th December which we won.

And 6 more points this season would have us 4 points behind Chelsea but with a game in hand. But that's Hodgson for you.

Notice how shockingly poor they were aswell in the Europa league from xmas, the fa cup, drew away to Reading, lost at home, look at the two away wins in Europe BOTH sides of xmas last season, lost against not great teams, a couple draws and the two wins were against some of the worst teams to ever be in either competitions. For the record those teams were Debreceni VSC, and Unirea Urziceni.

The whole point, which no one has ever conceded is, as you said, the year before 13 away wins, the two years before that even more, 5 wins last year is already a MASSIVE MASSIVE reduction, massive, you simply will not admit that, at all. Even beyond that it was 5 wins of which 4 were in the first half, only one in the second half of last year. Beyond that, Torres is even worse now than he was in the second half of last year, and his form has been dropping for 18 months now.

But you're acting like Hodgson has made it worse, which simply isn't true. You also keep forgetting your best defensive player left, at which point you might expect a worse defensive record, and this will show up more often away from home unsurprisingly.

A worse team is worse, which shouldn't surprise anyone, and the poor away form of last year, continues.........

All this seems to surprise Liverpool fans because they convinced themselves that, one, Liverpool were really a top 4 side who had a bad year, two, Hodgson is a man motivator and can turn a team from relegation to europa in one season, no, Fulham bought 53 players in 2 seasons, spending 65mil + with a half dozen free transfer players who would normally be worth another 40million.

LIverpool fans over-estimating their team coupled with a ridiculous idea of who Hodgson was meant epic failure. Basically they thought they had a great team, underperforming and some magical Mr Motivator would come in and take them back to where they were, and neither of those things were remotely true.

To add to the facts in Rafa's last nine away league games we conceded 6 goals and scored 7 but in Roy's nine away games - scored 7 but conceded 19!

Yep that's not great I suppose, I hadn't really looked into it extensively and I wasn't trying to say Roy had done well, just quite surprised at how poor Benitez had done.

Why am I not to surprised to see DM making up a complete load of bull**** about Liverpool yet again

no one else forced him to sell Bellamy, Crouch, everyone else and buy utter rubbish to replace them with.
Crouch wanted to leave.

No, he wasted £11m on Merieles then chose to play him out of position, he wasted £4-5 million on Konchesy despite us having a far better LB at the club and need I mention the £5 million for Poulsen? As for Maxi, he was a free transfer as you've been reminded time and time again!

The biggest issue Hodgson faced was fans keep kidding themselves that Liverpool were a side that should have finished 2nd but got incredibly unlucky last season, so Hodgson should have been aiming for the top 4 at worst, top 2 at best and being any lower than that was complete failure.
That's a complete pack of lies. Who said we should've finished 2nd last season? Who said Hodgson should've been aiming for the top 4 at worst? You want to know who? YOU!

Stopped reading his posts at the point of Torres being a **** and not want to show up striker.

Although having 25 points this season is hilarious, Torres has got us 17 of those in vital roles in the matches, bare in mind under hodgepodge he had zero to no service.

Apparently this Liverpool squad is poor and under performed this and last year.

So Reina, skertl, aurellio, masch, kuyt, Lucas, riera, torres, gerrard who battered united at the toilet, then having agger, Johnson, carragher, babel, benayon aswell.
So we lost alonso Arbeloa and Sami(played 3 games all season I think.)
The remaining players last year were **** and didn't underperform but simply not good enough?
Don't think so, Rafa spent too much time fighting the cancers rather than focussing on football, Hodgson just simply isn't good enough for LFC, nor understood it and nowhere near the quality of Rafa

Don't talk ****, players are underperforming and are capable of more, but DM youu would be class with Lawro, Martin Tylers monkey, redknapp, stelling and Merson.
