RTX 3050 - starting at $249 (msrp)

TBH - there should have been an RTX 2050. Lacking RTX and DLSS, it's like those cards were a generation behind.

My RTX 3050 is in and working, replacing the RTX 2060 I'd overspent on (by my standards). Only got as far as coming on the forum so far though. May need to fire up a game or two to check everything is in order.

I thought the 3050 was slower than a 2060 ?

It is, mostly. However performance is quite close and it has a couple of advantages like having latest HDMI version and being the first brand new card I've bought for a long time. For now, either card is more than sufficient for what I need it to do.

Well another way to look at it is 90% of the performance for 75% of the price (and taking into account that's new Vs 2nd hand). And lower power consumption.

If I hadn't been able to get it at MSRP I wouldn't have bothered though.

Let's not beat about the bush though. It's basically a downgrade. I just didn't need the performance of an RTX 2060. I suppose the RTX 2060 was a mere hiccup in my upgrade from a GTX 970, the result of an eBay auction I didn't expect to win. I gamed on it for about 2 hours.

Edit: There is a scenario where the RTX 3050 tends to equal or better the performance of an RTX 2060: Ultra settings with ray tracing on. Could be the 6GB VRAM is the limiting factor there. As it happens both cards tend to need DLSS to pull decent framerates at that point. I suspect this is a sign of things to come though, as games get more demanding.

There will always be one scenario where it beats the 2060 but as Digital Foundry showed, the 2060 will beat the 3050 in 9/10 in other areas.

Given the choice of a 2060 or 3050 I'd still go with 3050 for the HDMI 2.1, more vram and it holding onto it's value better. I'm sure you'll be able to cover most of the cost of the 3050 selling the 2060 on the MM

For those that had issues, I wi be curious to know if you are able to get it working.

I’ve an old gigabyte G77-d3h motherboard. It sounds like it might not work. It would be a shame. It would make it easier to piecemeal upgrade

I have exhausted all my available options (latest bios, changed all settings in BIOS, changed PSU), and have purchased an H510 board,10th gen i3 and some DDR4 to do a more general upgrade.

I've got a strange one. When the card was first powered up I had a constant white Palit logo. Now I've downloaded their Thundermaster software, the rgb led is flickering.

I'm guessing software / firmware issue, as there wasn't any issue with the physical led itself before the software got installed.

Just released, leaving out the RTX 2060 blip, I've effectively gone from a 2014 £239 (ish) card to a 2022 £239 card, as this old article quoting @Gibbo shows: https://www.kitguru.net/components/...-prices-of-geforce-gtx-970980-graphics-cards/

Could you try a different RGB software? I controlled mine with Asus Armoury Crate (as my board is Asus and the rest of the RBG is controlled that way).

Set mine to solid white with that and it has been fine.

Ah, that might be why. I've got armoury crate running for the rest of my RGB. Didn't realise it'd be able to control the Palit graphics card. I bet they're giving mixed messages to the card.
