RTX 3070 Price - are they really worth it?

I would say Most of you are *totally* wrong.
Your looking at £900 which is worth roughly LESS than £500 was a few years ago.
The dollar/pound/euro has Inflated!!!
I'm not a trader but aren't these two points saying exactly the same thing?

Just look at the price of copper and other raw materials
I was trading in the markets for over 15 years before I retired and I see the start of a new commodity cycle.
Copper is on a bit of a run at the moment but there is probably less than £10 worth of copper in a GPU so that makes it hard to justify being a bargain at £900

But most of the basic stuff you NEED. Wheat, corn and copper is used a lot in electronics etc.
Wafers, chips, kernels, bytes, forks; amazing how much overlap there is between electronics and food production.

Just the other day Windows complained that my PC was low on corn and I would have to close some apps.

You don't NEED electronics. For a trader you seem to be contradicting yourself too much. The prices are set by what the people are willing to pay. If people aren't willing to pay £900 for a GPU it won't be sold for that. Equally, if copper gets so expensive that people won't be buying it, guess what? The price will drop!
Prices of goods are dictated by people not the supply.

I was worried about the pad for FPS but took the plunge regardless because I was so sick of increasing prices, I needn't have worried, it took some getting used to but now it's fine, in fact in a lot of ways it's better. I use a mouse all day for work and now my wrist gets a rest and the pain in my wrist has all but disappeared. You can match speed with walking NPC's rather than having to stop start all the time. A trigger is great for firing a gun. Vibration adds to the experience.

There are numerous other advantages to gaming on an Xbox but I won't go into detail here, the biggest advantage by far though is the price

I am so close to just going for an Xbox at this stage too...
I saved up enough to get myself a 3070 when they were coming up and it aligned more or less with my birthday. That was last November ._. The whole gfx situation is ridiculous, from pricing to the shortages and all.

I keep waiting hoping that we'll start seeing more stock but also beginning to realize I'm just lying to myself.
I wouldn't mind too much but my 970 is really starting to show it's age with the newer games. /sigh

I already pay for the Game pass on MS Store so at least would have a great selection on the console ha ha

Congrats you guys! Was this on the members sale or somewhere else?
Somewhere else famous for selling FE cards. You will know which retailer if you following the bay listings, scalpers are always saying/providing receipts from said retailer as warranty (or proof of purchase for warranty purposes).

You need Discord or Telegram on your phone+PC to have any hope of getting one.

Then you need to join the servers "PartAlert", "StockChecker" etc.

Then you need pretty fast reactions when the alerts hit. Or just a healthy amount of luck!

Kudos for the tips, I've deliberately tried not to go down the route of obsessively monitoring things to get one but as I said... I realize that may be the only chance of even attempting to get one.
I was convinced it'd be better in 6 months, and now am spitting in my beard for not doing it earlier ha. Didn't even know where to begin, so the above will help :)

That's all you need to do and you should be able to get one. Make sure you have an account, card and address details can be auto entered etc etc. Have notifications turned on and preapre to get obsessive for a short while.

Just needs a bit of perseverence and you'll be rewarded :)

Locked and loaded, will be hawking the alerts for the next week and see if I can bag something!

Basically you have 500 people who want a next gen GPU but the online store has only 40 in stock, there will be plenty in that 500 crowd who will pay a big price to get a GPU as they have not upgraded for the last 4 or 5 years and this is what's keeping the prices up at the moment.
You're right price of copper will drop but only down to about the cost of extraction and extraction costs are getting higher due to lower ore grades, laws of physics etc.
If copper gets expensive it points to a shortage but as with the GPU situation a lot of people will still buy it, there are Billions of consumers out there.

Anyone who entertains £900 for a 3070 should have just brought a 2080ti for £1000 3 years ago and had 3 years of enjoyment out of it by now not to mention the extra 3gb VRAM.
