It's out first league game this week. Pre season was a bit mixed for us, some poor results, some good ones. Biggest challenge for us was getting our players available due to holidays etc. The friendly two weeks ago we had 28 players unavailable?

Did you still manage to put a team together? If so, you're probably doing better than us for the most part :D. Don't think we could have played with 28 unavailable.

2s is tough, most don't train, so it's not easy to get a grasp on how many there actually are. I know as the season goes on, I may stop training just to give myself a chance to recover. Looks like a really busy schedule, especially as it looks like I may be involved with the 1s at times as well this season.

Yeah, we did had 4/5 subs as well, we do have a 2nds team but they don't play any pre season games. We tend to take maximum numbers to our pre season games and play one team one half and one another. Our numbers look really good so far but they always do at the start before petering off, let's see how many are available when it's wet and windy in December. :p

Just smashed our local rivals in a cup knock out game. They had us in the scrum but it was all they had. Little bit of schadenfraud to see our main tighthead (though that might be me now) also going back in the second half.

I've been going to they gym for a couple of months now and eventually hope to get back playing again, I use to play tighthead prop but hope I'm not that size when I get playing again. My best mate is always nagging me to start playing again.

This was 5 years ago easily but I was 5'10" 110kg(ish), I'm about 130kg now but I want to lose the bulk. I've always been a heavy lad but I've just lost control lol. I hope to get to about 100kg and then go from there. My saving grace is I have never lost my leg strength. Yeah I've never seen a 14 stone prop :D

Wide thighs and big quads for me. I can get low too. Problem I have is facing good small looseheads, they can get under me and give me grief. In addition, I'm finding my locks/flankers often fail to get low enough to shove me (but it takes me a number of scrums to feel this, since I'm still learning). Feel strong enough to hold fairly well, especially if my lock can get in place. Still learning though. Feels "good" to see the senior tighthead at the club (not a huge guy, but probably 110kg+) go backwards against the same opposition though.

Same I have huge thighs, quads and massive calfs. Its a tricky role to play and I feel like props don't get enough credit sometimes. I feel like I'll be very out of place when I play again though because I've always played prop. Sometimes its easy to be self critical and you're probably better than you think if the senior is having the same 'problems' as you against your opposition.

My first manager (2s) wanted to move me to hooker after my first few games, because I was straight talking about how I was doing. Getting myself twisted up, going backwards etc, he thought I was getting down about it. Truth is, it was anything but, I was getting into strong positions every now and then, and feeling how effective I could be, so whilst I was getting beaten, I knew I was improving. One game started out with me going back 10 yards, but by the second half they didn't get an inch out of us. Very satisfying.

Advantage with prop is you'll always be welcome, clubs always want props. We could do with some scrum halves now though, one of the other very specialist positions.

You can never have too many props :D Yeah I use to find it frustrating as hell when you'd come up against the other pack and just get marched backwards, its all part of the learning experience though.

Bringing it back round to international rugby, having played at tighthead, and knowing the feeling of coming out of a hard scrum, just makes me so impressed with Sincklers work rate around the pitch, and soft hands.

Well, the world cup is basically here. How's everyone celebrating? I'm fortunate enough to work from home, so can watch tomorrows game with no worries. Will likely be playing myself on saturday (though I've got an injury that's not healing as fast as I'd like), and will be training the u8s on Sunday. Thankfully the club has been smart and moved all training a couple of hours forward so it's all done by the time the game comes on.

I'm starting night shifts tonight so I'll be able to catch some games in the mornings before heading to bed. Will have a powernap before All Blacks - South Africa on Saturday though :p :D

Coach asked if I was still injured, told him I'm willing to play but not 100%, looks like I'm not playing. So I'll be up the club cheering on the 2s, but that's after all the games anyway. Looks like I'll need to miss most the ABs vs SA game, since my boy has krav maga practice at 11.30am. Wondering if I fancy getting up early for Aus/Fiji.
