Rule Britannia or not?

They were handing out EU flags at last years proms, that tells you all you need to know. Remainers won't be happy until we've been dissolved into the EU. It's like Scottish independence it's a total joke, the SNP just want to weaken the UK as a whole and go running back to the EU hoping that England follows either through choice or necessity.
As has been said, the flags were given out by a small protest group.
Zero to do with the BBC, zero to do with the organisers of the proms, the venue, or the musicians.

When you want a really good rant that people might agree with, try to at least get something like the facts in it.

. . . the SNP just want to weaken the UK as a whole and go running back to the EU hoping that England follows either through choice or necessity.
I think that you will find that the Scottish Independence movement predates the EU (Brexit) Referendum by a few years.

The SNP have no interest in "weakening the UK as a whole" as you put it. They certainly want to remain part of the EU but the significant wish is not to be governed by the Westminster "Bubble". I believe that there is a faction in Wales that feels the same and many in Northern Ireland would like to be reunited with the Republic of Ireland. There are many people in the North of England who are unenthusiastic about being run by the Westminster "Bubble" but accept that that is the way things are at the moment.

However, none of this has anything at all to do with whether or not anyone wants to end performances of Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory or Jerusalem at the Last Night of the BBC Radio 3 Proms or why.

lmao priceless. Kicking off about the lyrics not being sung and they dont even know the lyrics themselves! Maybe thats why they want them sung at the Last night?

EDIT: Just seen this was Newcastle as well. Sad.

I can only assume it must be near impossible to read the words or learn them when your vision is blurred by tears of patriotic pride

Nice.

As I say, for me, it's the untrammelled triumphalism and the lack of the faintest inkling of any problem right up until he's literally looking for the next word to sing. It cracks me up every time... I wonder how many times he's told people "I knew what I was voting for". ;)

Some people see it as an attack on their countries hard earned history - Some people see it as an unnecessary anachronism to a time best forgotten - Some people don't care either way but are fed up with every single thing being a "with us or against us" issue nowadays with no escape from it.

Personally I'm in that third group but with a heavy leaning towards disliking people who sneer at those who have the audacity to be proud of their Country, imagining them to be one homogenous lump of thickos and racists showing that, for all their supposed intellect, they've learnt absolutely nothing from recent history and still prefer to ignore or misunderstand how the majority of the Country actually feels.

What has recent history taught you about how to treat people demanding others respect a song they themselves can't be ****ed to learn?

I've been looking a bit more in to this, and it looks like the BBC misquoted Dalia Stasevska and thats how this story started off.

Half these lot can spell Britain let along remember the songs that are supposed to represent the nation (I don't feel very represented by them), or who are even on the statues that if removed will wipe out British history.

It's xenophobia and racism masked up as patriotism, it keeps recurring throughout history, and we never learn.

Literally do not care about the proms, or what songs they play and it seems the choice was made on 'artistic' reasons anyway because of the lack of audience and smaller performing crew.

Photo is doctored, people like you immediately believed it because you suffer from confirmation bias, you think the opposition are stupid so actively look for and believe evidence that supports that while disregarding evidence that refutes it.

People on the left want you to hate these people, they're just regular working class people who care about their country. They definitely aren't the most educated or intelligent people, but they aren't bad people either. You'd probably get along better with people in that photo than half the stuck up tossers that read The Guardian.

Unsure why people are raging over a fabricated story anyway.

That's how it works. 'They' (Russians, White simps, who ever is it wanting to cause social division) do it as it stirs up both 'sides'. If you look at what's Trending on Twitter currently, there is "Argos".

It's there because an account created in June with the bio of 'Yorkshire born and bred... Tory.. U.K. Best country in the world" tweeted.

That account has 4000 odd tweets since June, this 'woman' is apparently up at 2am tweeting about an Argos advert that got her so enraged she can't believe it.

'They' don't want that to go around all the far right, the fascists and racists, who's opinions might match up with Lyn's. 'They' want it to go around the other people, normal people, lefts, centrists, just common sense people. When it does and those people get wound up by this 'opinion', then it's those reactions that which goes around the subreddits, Telegram groups and Twitter circles of the far rights, fascist and racists.

I'll take the L on that one, even if they are still ****ed up morons.

I'm not even left, just anti-racist and anti-idiot.

There's replies from more legitimate looking accounts with similar responses. You can't blame everything on bots, they're outing everyone on each 'side'.

Britain first is not the target audience for the Proms. People who enjoy and either go along to classical music performances or watch them on television are. The 'last night' performance is to let off some steam and again enjoy the performances. The photo above is deflection because the two are not linked.

Nice try though but ultimate fail

I don't watch TV generally, but when I have watched it recently (catch up on the C4 website) there wasn't actually an advert without a black person represented in it, yet black people make up around 3% (probably a bit higher as the information is a bit old now) of the population. I have nothing against black people being in adverts, I remember that guy Howard who did the Halifax adverts being quite popular and entertaining, but now it feels like diversity is mandatory, it's utterly bizarre. Do any countries outside of Western Europe and North America have this weird obsession with diversity quotas in everything?
