Runescape

i just logged on to see if the game is still as bad as it used to be, fro some reason i've gone from being level 100 and something to 83 and most have my levels have gone down by about 20, wtf

Eoc is coming in around 3 days, there was a whole ****storm about it but i think the "hardcore" players have started to accept it a bit

The higher level/long time members are accepting it because combat hasnt change for 10 years.

Its reached a stage now where you can 1hit things. Our damage output is insane.

Jagex cannot release any higher tier equipment or bosses. the current combat system just doesnt scale to that.

EOC is also, fun.

However, some serious balance issues still exist with EOC. We all want a change, but some (myself included) feel it is a little rushed.

Wow, not played this for a good 5 years. I remember Abby Whips being the bee's knees. Got to level 99 fletching, some serious money there. Would never go back, got too additive, took up toomuch time.

Is it really in that bad a state now?

I completely agree, love the new look to things, but i thought that the old combat was what made runescape runescape.

i can only feel that the Gui is taking up a lot of space. seems crowded in my opinion.

RS3 (confirmed by J mods) Is reported to have customisable UIs. It will be a while before that though.

Surprisingly, the Hour long YouTube Q&As with jagex are really interesting. They cover a range of topics and all give a good insight into the future (long/short term) of RS and include a healthy dose of spoilers. They also give a much better idea of WHY jagex do some of the things they do.

Their official channel is just /runescape on youtube so, if interested have a look.

Look for the live streams. These are the long discussions. The "BTS" videos etc are just advertisement crap.

The new combat threw me off abit, I thought it had just got stupidly hard as I was getting beat down quite abit by level 100 Basilisks, turns out I wasnt using abilities, wondered what that hotbar was for, so I was just using auto attack and wondering why I was doing ****. :p

LOVE the new combat, a definite improvement.

I had a crack at this about 10 years ago, it was old THEN! I didn't really get anywhere beyond quite noobish levels. Ended up mining for ages and realising that it's quite possibly the most geeky I've ever been in my entire life.

It's one of those things that no matter what evidence someone comes up with, how convincing an argument someone can create, or how great it really is, it will always be hugely, massively, insaaaaanely geeky to me!

You don't play any MMOs I assume? :p

I've played my fair share. I don't play any now, however if I hear anyone talking about them I don't instantly think "Oh god :(" like I do with Runescape! Just something about it, I think it's because the only other people I know that has played it IRL is my ex girlfriend's little brother, so it's like a kiddy/geeky/sadfest in my head that's never gonna change :p

Well fair enough and you're entitled to your opinion, but to me, WoW is that, and Runescape is the adult MMO. Every game has its fair share of children, WoW, CoD, Runescape etc. all have an equal share of brats, it's just down to the players preference, I find Runescape much less restricted, more accessible and much more in depth mechanically than any other MMO. Plus it's very easy to play while you do other things, as you can just leave your character doing something and check back infrequently to make sure they aren't idle.

I played Runescape Classic tons before the RS2 update came out, and played it for a good few months after that. Must have been what, 6-7 years ago?

With friends, it was quite possibly the most fun I have ever had in my gaming life. PK'ing was such a rush that hasn't been matched by any other game. The risk of losing everything if you die, it was just brilliant! Going around with a group of people killing at castle, those were the days! :D

I tried playing it again a few months back and whilst it has definitely improved, I can't help but feel like it's showing its age.

If an updated version of the game came out with graphics like recent MMOs, I would be ALL over it. I know it will never happen though :) I don't think there has ever been a crafting system as good as the one in Runescape.

1. Graphics don't make a game
2. Runescape has a cracking art style
3. Doesn't even look dated, it's browser based...
4. What are WoW and Guild Wars excuses? They both look like ****.

I know graphics don't make a game and that it's browser based, but, for me, that's what's holding it back. That's probably the appeal for a lot of people, they can play it from pretty much anywhere and I get that.

WoW and GW2 are very different styles, but you can't say they look bad.

I guess for me to play this again, I'd need a more modern control scheme, which comes hand-in-hand with an updated engine/graphics model. For me, it's much easier to get immersed that way as apposed to the point and click controls. I would love for a game to go for the approach of RS - having quite a grindy game but with so many activities and so many things to do, it's hard to get bored. The risk/reward system, the quests, crafting, areas, etc, it was just brilliant. The depth in some of the skills is fantastic which isn't matched in MMO's today.
