Russell Brand.

People have short memories - remember what happened about caroline flack rumours and uncontrolled social media feeding frenzy -
so the culture media and sport committee are reminding social media companies of their responsibilities ... otherwise they could be fined down the line.

Good luck with that. There is no easy fix to this. This is what the public does. They love gossip, they love to blame people, they love to pile on. So unless governments grow a massive set of balls and ban social media its not going to stop. And if they did that all the people screaming about what is happening now would be screaming about that. Its like they don't understand the masses at all.

LOL of course its not law and order. You think I want our government doing this? But this IS what the public voted for. They elected a Tory government that passes this kind of legislation, they've consistently done it for decades. So don't be all shocked and outraged when they do what they say on the tin. If you voted Tory, you voted for this. Don't try and wash your hands of it and blame it on anyone other than the people who voted for this government.
Which legislation was passed that specifically gives government the power to tell privately owned businesses that aren't UK owned to deplatform a private citizen based on allegations? After all, its literally just the sa/rape allegations being the reason isn't it...

And I'm not a "lefty". I'm actually a centrist who leans left and right on different issues. I've voted for all 3 main parties in my life. That you see me as a lefty probably says more about where you are on the political spectrum than where I am.
Yeah, I've seen who you consider to be center left media and they are generally all far left news outlets as per media bias site checkers !

It's worth taking names at this point because I have a strong suspicion this whole thing will blow up in certain peoples faces (Tim Davie, C4 Controller, Sunday Times, The Sun and certain MP's).

The lack back bone we have in our leadership by capitulating to the mob so easily is why people like Putin feel they can get away with they are doing.

What's worse for me personally don't even like Russell Brand, I find him to be an arrogant **** and what he did to John Sachs was terrible but I have to call out an injustice when I see one. I guess some might say this is karma finally catching up with him?

All you do is portray people as being at the extreme end of the scale. In my experience and the countless people I've worked with and socialised with, I've maybe only ever encountered one with bonkers conspiracy beliefs. The rest just have what I'd consider a pretty rational but suspicious view on what they are seeing play out.

You say people want less government. I think people really just want a government that operates with the people's best interests in mind. Without being influenced by the contributions of the businesses they are meant to be regulating.

From what I've read you seem more interested in American politics than what goes on here anyway tbh.

No I am talking about a % of the right and some on the extreme left but its more of a right problem at the moment who have embraced insane conspiracies. Yes its mainly in the US but its happening here as well now, we always seem to import the very worst things from the US. People seem ready to jump on to any conspiracy theory in the last few years. When the Plandemic video came out it went viral. People went nuts for it and believed it. It was made by an anti-vaxer and his star witness was a women who was fired from a medical research company because she faked data to make her study look better. The cardinal sin in research. She was no better than Andrew Wakefield. When I pointed this out to some friends who I thought were rational they said there are two sides to every story and maybe she was fired for upsetting the status quo and to shut her up  Another one was people burning 5G towers. I know people who covered their gas and electricity meters in tin foil as they thought they were 5G and could give them cancer.

Is this government that people voted and gave a massive majority to acting in our interests? This is what they voted for. Its not like they've suddenly doing things they've never done before.

Yes I find American politics more interesting. In part because I'm detached from it. We are stuck with what we have here, sadly the people keep electing the same idiots time after time. And in the last few years the US has taken a dangerous turn towards authoritarianism and that is a massive concern. Without the US we are ******. It should concern everyone.

You do come across like Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys

You think they are acting unlawfully? What law are they breaking doing this? I find it hard to believe that you are surprised at this.

LOL 90% of Democrats would be Tories in the UK. Left wing media in the US isn't left wing here. Although this country leans right of centre its right of British centre. On the US scale its left of centre.

It seems ironic that the Brand case is about respecting boundaries, and we have Caroline Dinenage writing to a private business directly giving them "encouragement" to do with right thing.

This is the new level we're at now. Political gangsterism.

The online harms bill hasn't even been inked by the King yet and they are already throwing their weight around. This is the new future.

Who cares if you're guilty or not, our government won't wait around for the legal process to complete before stabbing you in the back.

I don't think the right are really the right anymore, they're more like 60's/70's hippy left, extremely anti-establishment. The 60's/70's left were shouting similar things back then, Vietnam war, MK Ultra, the JFK assassination. All considered conspiracies.

i pass no judgement on the current conspiracies, whichever one's you may be talking about.

I don't believe this stuff. I'm not the one burning 5G towers or calling the vaccine "clot shots" or that it has a microchip in it. The point is that a good proportion of Brand's audience do believe this stuff.

Good man, you don't need to call them clot shots, the BBC reports it for us. 80 plus clot shot deaths in this one single report.

Dunno about you but I eagerly await how @Colonel_Klinck @Mercenary Keyboard Warrior @dlockers @VincentHanna and mags will be spinning this to be a big ol nothing burger
Why are you tagging me in this?

Tory government minister (I didn't vote for them) writes stupid letter.

Is that supposed to be proof that the government colluded with the main stream media to take Brand down because of his videos railing against Biden, big-pharma and the American war machine [supporting Ukraine]

And then went on to have his kid. Weird case that one, I suspect their relationship had gone toxic as some do and they were embroiled in an escalating game of tit for tat. Maybe once this was pointed out, they realised they were being daft and tried to move on. We'll never know exactly, that is one case we shouldn't really be commenting on with how it finished.
Also further evidence came to light, which may have forced her decision to step down.

It looks like the government have been writing to a lot more organisations than just Rumble.

Dame Caroline Dinenage, Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee has written to the BBC, Channel 4, GBNews and TikTok following the widespread allegations about comedian and actor Russell Brand.

I don't see any demands to ban him or demonetise him. Just asking questions around policy and procedures of the social media sites before potentially making policy/committee recommendations?

What if Brand posts up a load of videos talking about what "really" happened and is basically him throwing abuse at the (alleged) victims should he be allowed to make money off that?

"No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land."

Article 39 of the Magna Carter one of the few articles we kept, you know, seeing as it's very important and that.
Well it's a good thing that none of those things have happened to him then.

Also I suspect it's in the context of the state and not individuals or businesses whose rights would actually be stripped if they were forced to do something they don't wish to do.

An MP actively looking to remove a persons source of income in the absence of any lawful conviction or even charge is very close to the bone is it not?

In a land of free speech where you are innocent until proven guilty, it shouldn't matter what their policies are.

If they're that worried they should look to secure a quick conviction.

But media outlets are allowed to make money when they are promoting his wild lifestyle, then make money again when they are demonising his wild lifestyle.

I doubt the government were sending letters to the papers back when they thought it was fun to watch this top shagger.
