I'd like to feel some level of sympathy for them

But then I see what they do to Ukraine daily and go meh, karma.

Especially when they have been having a Hamas love in.

Given Russia's form for this, it's entirely possible this was orchestrated by Putin. I don't suppose we'll ever really know but Putin has used false flag terrorist operations to justify his actions in the past.

I'd suggest it's because you've dehumanised 'the enemy' so much that you don't feel anything when there's videos circulating of groups of people desperately scrambling for escape, while Islamist terrorists stand there deliberately shooting round after round into them.

The Russian people are still people, most of them are just trying to survive under a violent dictatorship, or believe the barrage of lies fed to them every day.

It's crazy to me that the people in this forum who talk the loudest about Russia don't see the irony of comments like yours, you lack objectivity and are fully invested in your ideas, with complete lack of nuance - just as badly as the worst 'Vatnik'.

Well that's assuming they are in fact Islamist terrorists (highly likely) and not a few Kadrovites doing the Kremlins dirty work (often to kill political opponents), considering Russia's proclivity towards false flags I am not willing to discount the latter.

I think you can feel both.

You can feel on a human level the sympathy and horror for the individual innocent civilians who have been killed in a terrorist attack

But then also not have much sympathy towards the Russian state when it collectively starts bleating about 'woe is me' and how atrocious killing innocent civilians is.

Well yea, it is, so maybe have some introspection about what you are doing to your supposed "brothers" next door.

I tend to agree. Although I have no doubt that the Russian people didn't ask for this, does anyone in war? Are the people culpable for their governments? I think the answer is, yes, they are. If the didn't like Putin then they should have done something before this. No good complaining now.

Yeah precisely, nuance.

I am the first one to admit that I am mostly ignorant of the situation, but it seems to me that you can't send out a message of peace while blaming the other side. So no, I don't think it is a wise statement at all.

It's a moronic statement from somewone who inevitably has a history of linking back/ blaming *everything* on Zionism/Israel/Jews.

It's a tricky one.

I get what you are saying, and undoubtedly there might have been some decent good souls caught up in the attack who didn't deserve it. Especially so in terms of young children.

But at the same time, Russia are currently a country who is invading it's neighbour, killing innocent civilians and stealing territory, for no other reason than their leader's ego/nostalgia for the Soviet Union. They've started a war completely unprovoked invasion, simply because they are annoyed that the west won the culture/political battle over much of the ex Soviet states.

It's therefore difficult to feel sorry for them as a nation when they get attacked themselves.

Well Russia and Russians have been murdering civilians on a daily basis in Ukraine for over 2 years now. No shortage of misery Russia causes for people in its own borders who don't consider themselves "Russian" and don't want their lands to be in the Russian Federation and those in neighboring countries that Russia has ground under its boot for generations. I'm amazed there aren't more attacks like this.
Didn't take you long to jump on the wagon and victim blame.
