Russian SU-24 - Shot Down by Turkey

I watched a Rapier live fire demo when I served in the Falklands. Two of the missiles didn't make it off the rails and a third went mental. Filled me with confidence I can tell you.

Ha heard the same, had a few mates and colleagues who served down there. The stories of our various air defences were hilarious, Rapier seems very **** but so did most the ship based missiles too :)

I saw it an army power day probably 20 years ago, and it nailed two fast looking drones pretty quickly :D

I was impressed, I also got a chance to see a fire for effect from light guns at the FOO point (as well as at the guns earlier in the day), I could hear the rounds fizzing over my head..

just as over 2000 have died after `volunteering` to fight.....

so yes it was a regular Russian unit which went to Ukraine and murdered MH17 , and they did it under orders from the kremlin. Quite likely it was a mistake , but like the USA , Russia have never , ever admitted to making them.

it very likely was a mistake, granted Putin is a **** but he isn't *that* much of a ****...

They needed the Falklands to give them a place to start again and fix it. Amazing how much crap weaponry systems we had back then.

More speculation, there is no evidence Russians downed that aircraft.

it is highly likely that either they or the rebels did it

and by 'rebels' I mean: off duty Russian soldiers who are trained in using said equipment and have 'volunteered' to serve with the rebels during their leave

Historically, the vast majority of munitions never find a target.

If they did, battles (Indeed, Wars) would be over within the first minute or two!

(This is, of course, why Nuclear weapons are so scary, they are so damn powerful that they cannot miss! That's why nobody really wants to use them!)

Vietnam estimates were 50,000 rounds fired by the US marines per kill.
