Rust - multiplayer survival from the creator of Garry's Mod

At the end of the day it's Alpha, the game is 10% developed. If people aren't happy about a wipe than they must never of played alpha version of a game before.

Not sure that's possible without manually editing the configuration file every night a restarting the server. I know what you are saying about the burden of working for a living so will have a think about it and see what we can come up with

Just make C4 not craftable and only lootable from airdrops?

Surely that is pretty simple to do?

Also restrict airdrops till the evening and remove them from the economy mod. Which btw i think contributes to the deathmatching issue you have/had on your server.

I think I have been through 4 or 5 wipes by now.. each time after completing all research and decent sized metal base. yes I agree we need to accept that wipes will happen, but I don't accept that they should just happen for the sake of it without some logic behind it.

Here we go again.. yes, of course only the N1B server out of the 1000s that exist has "death match" mentality players. lol

Its not even like that anymore after all the desperate-for-followers steamers left.

Seriously chill, i left because of deathmatching and new spawn farming, i haven't really been back since so i have no idea if its changed, hence 'issues you have/had on your server.', Implying the situation might have changed.

And i never implied it was the only server with this issue either, seriously don't aim your frustration at me.

Cocky's server was great until the Death Matching and new spawn farming i experienced, then i left, i have no idea if its changed. I hope it has.

I was merely making a suggestion to be part of the conversation.

I would be for a reset if it meant all of the people in the massive bases with full kevlar and loads of c4 would stop rading/being dicks

To combat the c4 issue, do you think it would help if Gary made it so you could only raid someone's house while they're online? It'd be interesting to see how that plans out, and I do admit to getting really annoyed when my base gets raided while I'm offline.

Most people do have jobs, and if you've got school kids etc. playing 8 hours a day to farm c4 no matter how well you build your base it's going to come down. At least give normal people a chance to retaliate!

That or add booby traps to the game - that'd be funny.

No doubt in the future you will have the option to have indestructible bases, problem then is people tend to sit in bases 24/7 doing god knows what as they know they are 100% safe :) The idea of only able to raid a base when online is a cool one though Varwen.

I think it should not be forced, but to allow server admins to enforce.

Some servers are aimed at a younger audience and some at a more mature. Providing the option to restrict out of hour raiding by server admins i feel is the best solution.

They are adding booby traps and trap doors etc.

We will have to work something out but C4 in airdrops was the reason we changed it last time, we had people having 10+ airdrops a day and pretty much unlimited C4 and raiding was a lot worse than it has been recently

It would give you a level playing field, but if you don't like raiding/kevlar you're going to struggle until the game has matured and levelled the playing field for everybody

Booby traps are in the works :)

We can have set times for PVP and PVE but don't think would change anything

I tried one server the other day that only allowed PvP in rad towns and at bases. Unsure how they admin that though tbh........ Did not stick around to find out

Unfortunately they probably have the time to spare in the day to get back to that position fairly quickly. And currently, that's what the game leaves you to do.

I spent about 30 consecutive hours playing with a mate (with 5 hours sleep in between) and we got almost all the weapons, tons of ammo etc, then realized there was nothing left to do except go and kill other players. We didn't care if it was a naked guy (I have used the 'wear no armor and hold a rock to make people think you are harmless' trick before, so I don't discriminate) or a fully kitted out player.

When you have enough food and resources, there really isn't much else to do except expand your base/raid rad towns, but even then you start asking 'whats the point', when you just keep getting flares in loot containers (god damn flares!).

Any server with 20+ players will have new-spawn killing.

But that issue is down to the Economy mod, if you removed air drops from that, you wont get this issue?

You could also restrict air drops until the server hits a threshold amount of players, say 20 players for example to represent an increase in players = people coming home from work for example. Then have them every 30m or so?

Hmm i guess people could camp the air drops, pool the C4 and raid your base out of hours, but as an admin could you not make it a rule and therefore punish anyone who does?

If i had LUA programming knowledge, you could whip together a inventory check upon death and if you only had fresh spawn items and everything else was empty, put a bounty of x amount on that persons head. This will protect new spawns.

Im all for the raiding and killing its just there's people who have simply played it more giving them and advantage on equipment so a wipe would be fantastic

This will protect new spawns.

Best way to protect new spawns is the new spawn him/herself being more aware of their surroundings imo. Then again I have always been into hardcore no hand holding game modes. People see a rock and run over to it naked without a care in the world and wonder why they get shot.

Bounties are a joke, a bit of fun.. And an exploitable one at that.

Now, if the player with a bounty had a huge arrow above his head and showed up on the non-existent map, it might be worth something.

And btw Nix, no frustration here, I am rarely killed (once a week average) and never raided yet on N1B, just tired of your constant hating on it when you have already moved on anyway.

How is your new server working out then Nix? I must log in one time and experience a high morality utopia with no killing of unarmed players, how have you managed it?
