RX 480 on 100% load all the time?

Try uninstalling PlaysTV/Raptr and see if it happens again.

Okies - I uninstalled that last night and have done lots of testing/playing/sleeping and so far since 8am to right now, the issue has not come back, so I can only assume that the PlaysTV/Raptr program was causing the issue. A big thank you to all for all the help in resolving this for me - hugs :)

Same problem here I got my red devil one this morning and its flickering a bit but its at 100% load at desktop as well as yours.

Sorry to hear this - all I can suggest is trying the above, if you have it installed, as it *seemed* to be causing my issue. gl with getting it sorted - it might be worth starting your won thread, but I don't mind if you want to keep posting on this thread to keep ideas/monitoring programs in one place.

I restarted my pc since I was installing stuff and it evened out. The usage went up and down when I was on youtube. I think I've seen it in another thread that restarting is a temp fix.

I restarted last night after uninstalling playstv/raptr and haven't restarted at all today - now 13 hours and no occurrence of the issue.

GL sorting your system :)

Urgh - looks like I spoke too soon. Just taken the pc out of sleep mode over night and it's come on straight at 100% load. Bah. What now?

I'm also having this issue and I cannot pin it down to any specific application as it seems so random. Currently I'm on 24+ hours of normal operation but every once in a while it just pegs to 100% load for no reason and the only way to get it back to normal is to restart. Definitely no virus/bit miners on the machine so I can only assume the issue is driver related, but will continue to try to figure it out :(

Uninstall the Raptr software, if you've got it installed, and avoid Sleep like the plague.

Not sure why anyone would use Sleep unless you've still got a mechanical HDD.

I've heard steaam is causing it, GPU-Z is causing it, now Raptr is causing it.

The only thing causing it is a RX480 and Crimson.

I haven't got Raptr installed, I'm not running GPU-Z for the time being and I very, very rarely use Steam, but it will still randomly start pulling 100% load for no reason.

What's wrong with sleep mode? It means my pc saves power when I'm not using it. Sometimes I'll get up to do other stuff and end up spending more time away from my pc than I thought. I wouldn't have shut it down as I don't always realise I'll get caught up in the other stuff :)

Sleep can cause loads of issues with a huge variety of things, other than Windows itself.

My PC is ready to go in under 10 seconds, why would I choose Sleep over powering it off? If I wanted to save power I'd switch it off, not put it into Sleep.

Just restart your PC and then avoid Sleep for a couple of days and see if that improves things. I've seen a few people with similar issues and they've all used Sleep. Who's to say that AMD's power saving plays nicely with Windows Sleep?

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but until you give it a go I don't suppose either of us will know.

I still don't get your hate for sleep mode. You never just got up from the pc for a couple of minutes only to get waylaid by other stuff? I certainly do not turn off my pc every time I get up from my desk :confused:

Anyway - you can rule out sleep mode - it's just ramped to to 100% load 4 minutes ago. No screen saver, no sleep mode.

I just set the fan speed curve manual instead of auto in wattman and reduced the temp targets. That solved 2 problems, random stress test crashes using 3D Mark and keeping boost clock in idle. Looks like theres a context and a bug in the "thermal and clock managment" of the driver cause its happening allways if the GPU reaches ~80 Degrees with default crimson settings. (i have the nitro oc+ version of rx480)
My CF System produces bit more heat so i can easily reproduce this and with the manual settings it never happend again :)

We're investigating this one internally folks.

Does anyone know how to consistently reproduce this issue?

Please let me know if it happens without Steam running. We are aware of an issue with SteamVR causing 100% GPU load, we hope to have a fix for that one soon.
