RX VEGA AIB Cards Information Needed?

the OC3D preview of the Powercolor Red says that the vendor expects the RRP to be in the region of £529.

two questions:
1. Is overclockers known for inflating pre-order prices?
2. Is overclockers known for lowering the order price on preorders to whatever the RRP is finalised at on arrival?

Yeah, I understand. Tbf the market will sort out the pricing, but I get the feeling that the manufacturers aren't banking on large scale sales.

It makes me wonder what AMD are going to do when there's very small numbers about to buy, and thus few sales. The people who want blower cards for their own watercooling or for case exhaust are already out of luck. Maybe there's a respin version closer than we think? AMD can't keep going with a few OEM sales at high price and little presence in the market.

Would you guys say now is a good time to buy a Vega 64 considering they OcUK are selling them reduced?

I'm looking to build a new PC but can wait until after Xmas if it makes sense.

Looking at this one:

They're loud, at least they are in an M-ATX case, I couldn't live with it so. Personally I'd go for the Red Devil which is on pre-order.

That said it looks like the Strix could fit in my case without modding it so if it does I'll be going for one of those even though it has the usual Asus mark up..

Newer manufacturing process for smaller die size would help to manufacturing costs. (decreasing also size of interposer)
But former 14nm+/now called 12nm process shouldn't be ready yet for any kind mass production.
And anyway would expect it to be first used for making smaller cut down Vega, because large chip on new process is always big risk.

They wouldn't have to go down a process node, just make improvements for the next batch, much as they did between 290/390. Maybe improves cost, speed and power somewhat.

Cost is associated with die size and without process shrink that really isn't going to change in any meaningfull way compared to cost of making new physical design.

But we've been actually forgetting one thing.
Wasn't Apple going to start using Vegas relatively soon?
Even if HBM2's availability is finally starting to improve and Vega dies can be made in large enough quanties there's the interposer and need to attach GPU and HBM into it.
That's another possible bottleneck for manufacturing volumes.
So availability of reference Vegas might be limited for building stockpile for Apple.
With custom cards taking their own share from available manufacturing volume.

Remember RTG are in flux atm, and AMD are taking their sweet time appointing someone to replace Raja!! Not good for the medium-term, not good at all (things will slip no doubt, and nVidia are solid as a rock leadership wise)

As soon as Christmas sales are over, won't talk turn to Volta? The window for AIB vega seems pretty narrow, unless Volta is priced so high that Vega remains a viable option.

the heat off the air cooled inside a case must be mental, and i bet they're loud as **** as well
Logically speaking, as the heat/power of a reference Vega 64 is roughly equal to that of an AIB 980ti I would expect that an AIB Vega 64 would be around the same as an AIB 1080ti at worst. Which is of course not good when you consider that's a faster GPU, but it could be much much worse (Fury X I'm looking at you).

unless Volta is priced so high
NVIDIA are similar to Apple now. After establishing really fat % profit margins on their successful products, they're not going to tone it down just to be nice.

Volta will be pricey, to keep NVIDIA living in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Apple do have half decent competition though.

I know, I might of gone for the water-cooled one again but the price will of gone back up by the time I have the money available, plus I would prefer an AIB model, I got a pcie riser cable delivered today so if the Strix doesn't fit I'll get a framework made so I can fit either the Powerdevil or Nitro version instead.

And Nvidia are putting out decent products (unlike apple), I don't think anyone would argue its just price is the annoying point (even if you take the pound value into consideration). AMD have charged the most when there products have been on top.

If Vega 64 was a 1080ti competitor (which it should have been given the die size) it would be price as much if not more.

Both company's are not your friend and are out to make as much money as they can as they are business.

You never know, as AMD aren't producing then anymore now, so they may stay as priced, as they want em gone.
