RX Vega With Kraken G10 AIO Mod

@Geck0 Never had a 290x, went 280x > vega 56. The chokes/inductors are the raised component and the AIO cold plate does overhang them slightly. Maybe you could cut the opposite side of the stock cooler to allow the AIO coldplate access and keep the part of the stock cooler which touches the chokes intact. I will be adding some sinks on top of the chokes and modifying them to clear the GPU AIO.

As you can see adding an AIO dropped MOSFET temp from ~90c to 70c on the top FETs and from ~80c ~40c on the low FETs. As I said, even without heatsinks the MOSFETS with an AIO mod are well below stock purely by virtue of the core running much cooler (less radiated heat). The G10 has a fan attached which does send airflow (direct and deflected) all over the board. So the FETS are very adequately cooled without additional work.

Taken from gamersnexus link above.

"The ML120 [3x large fans] additions proved nice to have, but ultimately were unnecessary. We could keep the FETs down without them."

Highlighted text is my addition.

Interesting. I'll burn the card in untouched for a week or 2 to make sure there are no warranty issues and then forge ahead. The new monitor arrives today but it's unlikely I'll be able to have a play until the weekend. Thanks all.

I've quoted myself from another thread sorry its a little messy:

Same CPU and all, new RX vega 56. My first dabble at increasing the settings after installing OcUK Techlabs AIO GPU cooler, settings garnered from watching youtube re. 1100mv state 6/7 and 950 on memory. Its supposed to be good for 1050-1100 memory with the 64 bios.

Finally got it back together. I've got a GPU to 4pin PWM cable into a y-splitter. The sence signal is on the G10 mounted fan. The other side of the y-splitter is connected to a loom of 5 pwm splitters connected to the 4 rad fans and a fifth directed at the other side of the mosfets.

I've been also working on getting my 280x into a saleable condition with stock heatsink + bought 2 packs of 4mm high ramsinks but only used 1. I modded a single heatsink to go between the heatpipes and I'll have to put some akasa thermal gap filler for the rest cause I don't feel like sanding 10 copper 4mm sinks to 2mm.

Edit:
First thing I tried was 3dmark and got a reboot. Then played eternal crusade (f2p got steam workshop now too). Then Unigine benchmark. Using 17.9.1.
Edit: Just ran 3dmark, reboot may have been browser related (text corruption to crash, reported to amd, not in pre vega drivers).

My mod adds over £420 value and I have a 240mm rad lol except I've got a 56.

Did my 56 ages ago with the same AIO (NZXT) that I had on the 290 and it's rinning MUCH cooler, quieter and zero issues with MOSFET temps. I posted temps somewhere a while back but yeah, no issues bare board and an AIO on the GPU\HBM package only.

I do run a Corsair air 540 though so plenty of air movement.

Did you use any mini VRM heasinks?
Ambient temp will be about the same as minimum, all settings stock to remove any muddying of the waters.

No VRM sinks at all and GPU-Z shows no adverse temps, they run cooler than they did on the vape chamber heat sink in fact. Just make sure you don't stick it in a case with crap airflow and you'll be fine.

Here's Superposition - 1080p extreme.

Hi guys, I used VRM from 2002(!), filled to perfection. I'll check back again see if I missed a questions. However I use 240 RAD push pull and its just sitting outside the pc which is behind a small partition (House built 1937).

Yeah I fully intended to stick cut down heatsinks on the VRM but decided not to because they are a bit dicey and the anecdotal evidence pointed to them not being stressed at all without - if it's not an issue leave it alone. It works just fine and overvolting these cards is a stupid idea to start with.

Sorry for necroing this post.

I will be doing this mod soon with a G12 bracket.

I am wondering if the part where you cut the heatsinks for the vrm's is absolutely neccesary, as in if will it cause damage to the card if I don't put heatsinks on the vrms? Or is it fine to just leave them like that?

Just taken my G10 of my Vega 64 to put some new heatsinks on the vrm's so i'll do a quick run through of what i did. Apologies for the poor quality pic's.

I cut down an old heatsink i had to the required sizes for the vrm's. Not sure if it's necessary to put heatsinks on the chokes?

Kraken g12,Mod vega 56 hybrid,radiator 120mm,

it is not very difficult you have to enlarge some holes and improvise grip,My vrm mem temperatures are 40c without doing anything, I think it's a bit high, it does not have a heatsink, I do not think it changes much,Gpu temerature hot spot It shoots at 90-107 degrees ,I also did it with the reference cooler, I do not know what the problem is, if somebody can help me and also how to lower the temperature of vrm mem

Hi Ignacio00981,

Your post and photos are awesome.=)
It is exactly what I will do also.

- I have few questions :
You have only enlarged existant holes of Kraken G12?
Which Vega56 have you?
Which GPU WaterCooling do have you?
What do you mean by "improvise grip"?

Thanks in advance,
Best regards.
