Ryan's Headphone Review Thread

I currently have some HD 555's driven by my dedicated (but still fairly cheap) sound card, which pair of headphones would give me a noticeable upgrade? I paid around £55 for those quite a few years ago, but would be willing to pay a fair bit more.

Been using my Oppo HA-1 for a few weeks now and (now its broken in) have to say its one of the best bits of kit I've ever bought. Never thought sound could be so good!

It's quite expensive as dacs go but you do get a lot for your money.

Even the remote control is well made and very functional (works great with Foobar)

I have it rigged up to my KRK VXT6's in the day time and in the evening I switch over to my Bayerdynamic T90 headphones. Both sound amazing.

I'm finally content with my setup.

Depends what sound signature you prefer

Very nice!

I've demoed one a few times and it does perform pretty damn well (very transparent). The sheer amount of IO is fantastic and the nice little display is well done. The only thing I didn't like about it is the price, damn it Oppo sort out your UK pricing...it's ridiculous.

I have an Aune X1 Mk2 and could be tempted to A) get the speaker amp to go with it and a nice little pair book shelf speakers or B) sell it and get a T1 and mess around with a tube or 2.

Anyone used or have an Aune X1?

Nice on the Oppo!

I was planning on eventually getting one of those but then Schiit came out with their Ragnarok and well... nice.

Cheers,

She is a lovely unit that's for sure. Never ceases to amaze me instruments that pop out in music that I could not hear before.

Puts a smile on my face every time time and makes music a pure pleasure to listen to. Literally music to my ears! lol

;)

If it sounds as good as it looks no wonder your a happy man!
Out of interest what headphones are you using with it?
I think that your a level/price bracket above me but I'm always interested to see what I could spend my money on :D

Looks like a great at set up you've got there combat fighter.
Those speakers look interesting, I'll have another look at them when I've got some more time.

Yeah the KRK VXT's are excellent professional monitors mate. I love them.

Not to be confused with the cheaper ROKIT range. The VXT range is a completely different animal (as well as being twice the price!)

Plus you have the KRK EXPOSE range, but they are super expensive (3.5k pair). Maybe one day. . . I've heard very good things about them (should expect so for the money!) and are the best you can get from KRK. Would be nice to compare!

I don't know to be honest, HD555's are my first and only pair of 'better than super cheap' headphones I've owned.

I tend towards classical, although wouldn't mind something that would work well with games and music with some strong beats as well!

I have the same setup but I'm using the Oppo PM-1's with it after upgrading from my T90's. You simply have to give it a try with their own headphones, it's superb.

My only complaint with the HA-1 is the sub par pre-amp they used to keep the cost reasonable. It's an amazing headphone amp but not all that great for speaker output unfortunately.

Personally I find the speaker output on the Oppo amazing.

Maybe you should upgrade your speakers!
