Ryzen "2" ?

There are lots of ways windows and its basic setup / drivers can mess up a machine, always best to get the very latest of everything.
As for getting windows up to date, an image download from MS will usually contain the latest build and a few windows updates ran to start with should be the first thing done along with a visit to the manufacturers website of the components to get the proper drivers.

I wana make a purchase this week if i can, maybe i'll just buy an adapter and use the bottom PCIe slot, it says '1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (PCI_E5, supports x4 mode) so im gona guess thats what i need for full speed of the M.2. Was hoping to pick up a Sammy 970 EVO at a later date to replace the 960 EVO which i'll maybe put into a second build at some point.

Will the bottom M.2 slot have the same speed as the top M.2 slot?

This is getting confusing now lol

One slot will be sata only. Using the other x16 will drop your gpu slot to 8x... Ryzen lacks lanes :(

And it's not always the top slot that is the faster/dedicated one. The CH7 definitely has the M.2_1 slot on the bottom of the board, meaning it's the one without the heatsink cover!
Yeah that's a really odd decision. I guess if you want the other PCIe slot or you want x16 for your main slot, it's better just to use the M.2_2 slot and buy a £10 after-market M.2 heatsink.

There will be one m.2 slot with lanes from the cpu, which will be gen 3 x4 speed which is the one you want to use.

the last slot with an adapter would give you gen 2 x4 speed, so 20 mbps rather than 32 for the full speed slot. I use the last slot for my secondary storage m.2 drive.

Ok cheers for all the info guys, i think im gona stick with the MSI board. Whats making me do this is that my GPU never goes over 66c-67c while gaming anyways so the M.2 behind it surely cant hit higher temps with the heatsink on it too. We shall see :p

All i need now is @Gibbo to put the 2700x back on offer again tomorrow ;) as i bloody missed it last week :(

One more question though, would streaming benefit from faster RAM and if so is it worth to pay up for that?

I got this Dominator Platinum 3200Mhz back in 2016 for £99.95 and its £219 right now so im hoping to save some cash by not having to get RAM with this upgrade, especially with the prices how they are.

It is an oddity, but to be fair m.2 drives don't really need heatsinks if they're not right next to hot components. The one above the GPU will catch a lot of updraft from the back of the board, the bottom corner is probably getting fresh air from the front of the case.

Though on a board the cost of a CH7, you'd sort of expect both to get heatsinks just for the sake of it ¬_¬

See how you get on with the RAM, if you cant get 3200 then its possibly worth considering selling it and getting something else. Depending on what speeds you can achieve. :)

Bear in mind that they do generate their own heat, and some drives throttle at 70 degrees... I have a sensor placed twixt gpu heatsink and drive and it reads 67 on a warm day while gaming :/ You might be fine on anything but a Samsung Pro, however; they're warm drives to start with and I should have thought about it before I bought.

Hopefully i wont be back asking which RAM to get lol This Corsair RAM is only 6 months old so should sell at a good price if needed :)

The good thing is that i only use the M.2 for my OS, my games are on a separate 850 EVO SSD which should take all the heat when gaming.. right?

Will deffo keep my eye on temps when its all up and running though.

Got the 2700X in last night and gave it a test. Annoyingly the IMC is worse than the 1700 it replaced. G Skill Flare X 3200.

Boots fine at XMP but fails the first test of Prime non-avx. Raising the soc voltage to 1.2 and dram voltage to 1.4 didn't help.

I have to go down to 3066 to not get any errors.

same boat as @opethdisciple

What do you think my chances of returning the cpu are after opening the seal and installing it? (not from OCUK).

Stole the 8pack ram again from daughters build to have another play but couldn't get it to 3466. :( Reverted back to Corsair LPX @ 3333.

The temperature spikes are pretty annoying in regard to fans, even with a fan curve and longer spin up times. One second its 30 degrees, then next its 60, then back down.

Totally agree about the fan issue. I am tempted to just leave it on max atleast that way I will get use to the fan noise after a while where as the constant up and down is painful.

I managed to get 3466 to boot and run CB etc but it keeps failing Memtest/Ram Test. Not experienced enough with memory OC'ng to know what else to try to get it to be stable. Could do more volts but not sure if the tiny extra difference is worth it. Also My CB score was lower on 3466 then 3200 docp default. Not sure if that was expected or because of the memory instability.

After messing around with memory settings yesterday reverted back to 3200, left MemTest running this morning wanted to make sure it reaches 1000% before I stop playing with mem settings till a new bios or something.
So when I remoted into my PC earlier to check staus I noticed this on HWINFO! is this a bug??? Never seen a core go past 4.4 before usually around 4.3.
