Ryzen 3900X thread

I’ve actually sent it all back now, and reinstalled my 4770k.

the memory kits were patriot dual 3600

and Corsair vengeance pro 3600,

Looking back I don’t think it was ever stable at 3600.

I’m also so surprised at how slow and buggy the bios was, took ages to boot. such a shame as it was really excited to be moving to amd after so long with intel but it’s totally put me off!!

think I might wait a while longer!

Id just like to thank all the beta testers in this thread, your doing a great service for me! By the time these chips become available at RRP the issues should be sorted out!

Likely what happened to you is what has happened to me. Turned out that I had one stick of ram that was dodgy and could not run at its xmp 3200MHz rate. After finding out which stick and taking it out, my system has been stable. Also the slow booting for me was being caused by the dodgy ram as each time it would fail at something it took ages to boot. Now I would say it is still a little slower than my 4770K to reach the windows screen, but maybe by 5 seconds at most which is no big deal for me. There is actually a ultra fast boot option available that I have not tried yet in my bios, that may close the gap.

But yeah, the first 48 hours my experience was not the best coming from a 4770K 4.7GHz, but now I would not go back.

Only issue I am having now is when windows is loading after entering your password there is slow down or lock up for a split second. Not a big issue, but it would be nice if that never happened. Seems to happened to others also from what I read. Maybe the new bios or a new build windows will solve it.

I tried everything, 3 different ram kits, different combinations, different bioses (even beta). Trawled forums trying all sorts of different ways to no avail. I still really like the processor and even with the ram running at 2133 it was still a beast of a processor. I just feel it’s let down by the motherboards and bioses.

Unlucky I guess. Did you run memtest on the ram’s? That’s how I found one of my sticks was 100% the problem. But I guess the chances are low that all 3 sets of ram you got had the same issue.

Is the 3900x worth overclocking? I have heard mixed things, some people claim you should and others say the PBO negates the need for OC'ing
I don't think so, unless you are using some exotic cooling. Just get the memory frequency as high as it will go, tune the timings for low latency, have as good a cooling solution as possible and let XFR do its thing.

Can you guys tell me which mobo/ram combination you have with your 3900x?

3600 or 3200

I currently have a ASUs c8h with 8 pack 3600cl16 ram and running really well I did have Corsair vengeance pro rgb 3600cl18 but I wanted the new Noctua d15 cooler and my Corsair ram was to talk hehe :) but both ram has been running well but this 8 pack cl16 is really rock solid

I have a noctua D14 which I love I don’t like the constant spin up/down of the AIO.

Nice mobo/ram you have too. Maybe I should’ve spent a bit more on the mobo.

Apart from not being able to run xmp on the first iteration of asrock bios, it's been fine. It seemingly idles at high volts, but it's drawing next to no power in this state and gaming performance is a huge leap over my 2700x. No regrets getting a day 1 CPU, especially with the current gouging.

8 pack ram timed at 3600 using DRAM calculator with an x470 asrock taichi.

The board is brilliant and packed with features, however asrock support is pretty **** as ABBA bios is being skipped. I can see the reasoning behind it, however I don't care, it's a premium board so should have all bios updates released.

Other than that it's rock solid stable and the performance is brilliant. Not really bothered looking at boost clocks it's achieving as the performance was such an uplift.

i used to ahve full custom loop but i decided this time to get a d15 due to it being black and ltt limited edition made my mind up hehe::)
that's the fan curve - you can change it

for me on a aio the fans are allways a lot more noisy though the pressure required though the rad allways makes the fans make a noise i cant stand

Gigabyte Aorus Master / Crucial Ballistix Sport 3200. I'm yet to apply the Dram timing changes.

Has anyone here tried using the Dram calculator? I just entered the bios but couldn't find a number of the settings, so I'll have to take a look at the manual.

I followed the Hardware Unboxed video tutorial. I think for my first attempt I'll stick with the safe preset.
