RYZEN 5000 SERIES NOW ONLINE - 5950X, 5900X, 5800X & 5600X COMING NOV 5TH AT 5PM **NO COMPETITORS**

Supprised people are moaning about a 50 quid increase on a £750 chip which is around a 7% hike, think of the people that are at the lower end of the market where buying a 6 core chip now costs £100 more which is nearly a 50% increase and these are the people with less cash to spare.

That's even before OCUK bumps it up to something ridiculous like £330.
Pretty sure the 3600x wasn't £190 when released.

edit just checked the 3600 was £199 and the 3600x was £249 when released.

I think you’re missing the point that the 5950X is already considerably more expensive than the 3950X was at launch. It’s not only the lower end models that have had a price hike. This was before OCUK chucked another £50 on top of the 5950X model. They’re pushing their luck (AMD and the resellers).

Because it's an increase for literally no reason.

I was gonna buy a 5950X from here, but not now. It's the principle of the matter.

If there are other retailers with stock for £50 less, I'd expect most customers to vote with their wallets. On the other hand, if it's a sellers market - that's how market capitalism solves the problem of scarcity for you.

judging by how things are going people would probably pay the £50 extra quite happily if OCUK have stock and cheaper places do not

Yep, absolutely. Stock is king, if cheaper places don't have stock their low price is nothing more than a few pixels on the screen. Meaningless.

I've been wondering or a while how motherboard stock is going to hold up - I'd expect a large proportion of customers, probably most as the older board don't have BIOS support yet, to also want a new board.

Many of the currently sold boards can be BIOS upgraded without memory or CPU via USB.

I did think it might be the case that we would see popular AM4 boards go out of stock, but looks like they are still holding up.

I mean anyone with a 450 board won't be in the market for launch as the BIOS updates aren't coming for a few more weeks. The people with 500 series boards are probably already running 3000 Ryzen so many won't be desperate for an upgrade on launch week. That leaves folk upgrading older systems and those building new systems - both needing new motherboards.

Point is, those than don't need a new board for 5000 series either don't have BIOS yet or already have decent enough CPUs so can afford to wait for the rush/price hikes to die down. Hence, most 5000 sales will need a new MB.

Got ya.

I think there are a lot of intel system owners that have a system of 6 or more years old that will be on this upgrade train.

As for the price increase on OcUK, this new normal of jacking up the price during the count down to release is ridiculous when the price first stated didn't mention subject to change or place holder price etc.. other retailers will tell the story.

I was just pointing out that the cheapest 6 core zen 3 CPU is now almost 50% more than the cheapest zen 2 chip and at no point did I mention the 3600X.

If AMD had called the 5950X and 5950XT instead would you all then be happy to cough up an extra £100?

You might be lucky to get one at all, remember the shortage of the high end Zen 2 chips around launch?

It's clearly says prices are subject to change on Gibbo's OP.

*Note prices are estimation only and are subject to change up or down. US Prices are $799, $549, $449 and $299 plus taxes.

True, but the funny thing with that post is we now know that they’re doing a 1:1 $:£ conversion and the 5950X is clearly more expensive then it should be when compared to the other models based on conversion. It’s lame whatever way you look at it.

Lol, if only:

AMD Zen 3 price
We now know the price of the first AMD Zen 3 processors:
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X: $799 (around £620, AU$1,100)
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X: $549 (around £420, AU$760)
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X: $449 (around £350, AU$630)
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600X: $299 (around £230, AU$420)
These are pretty competitive prices compared to AMD's biggest rival, Intel. However, they do represent a price increase compared to AMD Zen 2 processors”

Edit: and before people scream ‘but taxes’, the Xbox Series X is $499/£449, that’s 10% reduction based on currency. That means the 5950X should be about £719. But hey.

Can you buy direct from AMD similar to Nvidia with the 3080? Sure its just all the online stores being greedy. OcUK will of course have many in stock for the above prices

In the PS5 reveal the prices were set out in $ £ € now had AMD done this then it would have been much more difficult for retailers to just go and set whatever priced they liked.

I got a x570 Tomahawk a week or so ago from OCUK. Said 10+ in stock, just checked, still says 10+. Thats probably one of the most popular boards around Id guess.
