Tempted to get my first AMD since my old Opteron 146 many years ago :P
Do AMD chips reduce clocks when more threads are in use same as Intel? and if so how is overclocking for AMD? can they be clocked up to run same on all cores?

It should do 3800Mhz without much troubles and 4000Mhz if I loosen the timings a bit. I'll have to check the reviews to see whether or not I should favour speed or timings.

Got twitchy and ordered them too. Best just having them before stock goes low/runs out or the price goes up as everyone starts buying parts for a new build.
Just the 5900X now. At least if I can't get a 5 series at launch I have the option of picking up a 3900 then selling it on for a 5 series at a later date

2 x 16GB CAS16 seemed like the best option. I watched a Youtube vid of 8 pack showing some of the team group 8 pack edition 3200mhz modules running them close to 4000mhz

We don't know how Zen3 will behave, but would expect it to be akin to Zen2

My Zen+ is running 4.0 across all cores. I think the base was 3.4 and boost 3.8 stock
 
Gigabyte boards :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: terrible bios updates. Never again.

B550 MSI Tomahawk does everything i need and then some.
For £150 cant beat that.

But AMD prices are a bloody ripoff these days.

Almost £300 quid for 6core CPU? Are you aving a laugh??

I got a 8 core 1700 Ryzen for £320, 4 years ago...
6core 2600x for £220...

like wtf?

Yeh, noticed a couple had sold recently for £310... now the question is, do you think the 5900X is worth the extra £220 over the 5900X? Is the 5900X really 70% better

Unless you game at 1080p or make money on your PC from time sensitive work then probably not.

This train of thought comes up on every new hardware release. If you want the very best value for money, buying peoples last gen hardware as they flood the market and tank the price is always the best option. However, if you just want the best performance, then hop on the new one.

Of course not, performance never scales linearly at the top end, with new releases. Buying high end on release is never going to be good value for money, previous generation, on the used market will offer significantly better value.

My 1800X has been decent value. So was my R9 290X.

Mostly I agree, but sometimes forward planning to have the HT version of Intel 4 cores, or a couple extra cores, can delay an upgrade another couple of years.

I was being sarcastic. I know it wont be 70% really

There are plenty of 3900X / 3900XT / 3950X chips for £300 - £500. I'll still hold out for a 5900X but if I can't get one at least there are options
