RYZEN 5000 SERIES NOW ONLINE - 5950X, 5900X, 5800X & 5600X COMING NOV 5TH AT 5PM **NO COMPETITORS**

Are these due to fluctuate (only upwards) in price as much as the 3080s?

What motherboards fully support Ryzen 9 and PCI-e 4.0? Do these motherboards (any motherboards) come with more than one NVMe slot?

I have a Sabrent rocket 2280 drive but am thinking of getting a new NVM-E Samsung 980 pro primarily for OS.

New Ryzen build is looking expensive!

CPU - Ryzen 5950X - £750
Or CPU - Ryzen 5900X - £530

CPU HSF / other hybrid cooler - £100

RAM - Team Group 8Pack Edition 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit @ £218.99 inc VAT

Motherboard - £150
Soundcard/DAC - £150
Case - £100
SSD - Samsung 980 pro 1TB M2 2280 PCi-e 4.0 x4 NVMe - £230

£150 for the 3600 was rarely available at best.

i got mine for £144.

So let me get this straight - I can get a 3900X for £400, or a 5900X for £530. My maths may be a bit rusty but that's a lot more than the £50 gap AMD were talking about.

even better than that! i'm looking at a 3900X for £349, but being invited by AMD to buy a 5900X for £530...

When are we expecting reviews? Before the GPU presentation? Will probably go 5800X as I'm not expecting much difference in game performance between that and the 5900X.

I have no doubt that the 5900X could have been £700 and the 5950X £1000 and people would have bought it. But that's a different kettle of fish.

I wouldn’t...as said the 5900x is a 50 quid uplift over previous gen...I have no problem with that. Gamers Nexus who know more than me have no problem with that...Linus tech tips have no problem with that...it’s how markets work...

OK so tell me why a £500 processor gets a £50 price hike and a £200 processor also gets a £50 price hike, instead of a £20 price hike.

We keep saying that top end is less sensitive to price hikes than the bottom end.

*Plenty* of people here in this forum have been saying, "If you want the best, you better have deep pockets." Unsurprisingly, a lot of these people are expressing interest in the 5900 or 5950. The mindset of people buying at the top end is that they do want the best, and price is less of a factor to them.

You can't expect that mindset to prevail at the lower end. Unless you somehow also think that the 5600X is also "the best". It can't be, as the 5800 and 5900, 5950 are above it. The 5600X is a mid-range chip and expecting people to swallow a bigger % increase than even the top-end chips is mental.

People are butt hurt as there is no 5700x in the SKU....that’s it...AMD have set the pricing...and they will fly off the shelves...Factor in if you don’t need to sell your mobo it’s a relatively cheap upgrade once you sell your previous gen chip...

I'm not sure why people are complaining so much about paying £100 more for a 20% uplift in performance. If it was an extra £100 for 20% performance on a GPU, people would bite your hand off for it.

Except that 20% uplift won't be on everything. In their presentation, they showed one game title that improved by 20%, equally, on game didn't improve at all, so on average you'll probably be looking at a 10% improvement, so you pay 25% more for 10% performance increase. One thing though, it's better than the 3080 to 3090 "improvement".

I currently have;
I7 2600k, Vega 56 and game at 1080p

Which would I be best upgrading first?
CPU/Motherboard/Memory
Graphics Card
Monitor (1440p WS)

Or am I in a position where whatever area I upgrade will be wasted due to the other 2 areas?

I know I may be due a full upgrade but this would cost £2-3k so a lot of money, so thinking of moving in stages.

Thanks in advance. Think I may have reached the limit on my 12 year old parts.

I would imagine your 2600k is the biggest bottleneck right now. Even if you're getting good average framerates, I imagine the "smoothness"/0.1% lows are relatively horrible. My gaming experience improved significantly moving from a 4770k to a 2700x so a 5600(non-x when released) would be a great price/performance upgrade.

Vega 56 is still great for 1080p gaming, so as long as you are happy with 1080p then stick with it.

In the long term, you can then make the switch to 1440p and the mid-range equivalent GPU from this generation.

It should not cost £2-3k either.

CPU+Mobo+16gb ram = ~£450
Mid range 1440p GPU = ~£350
Good price/perf 1440 144hz monitor = £400

But why should a £200 chip get a £50 price hike and the 5900 get the same price hike?

It's ridiculous to think that this increase will be equally affordable to both top-end and low-end buyers.

A good guide on pricing, and whether it's right, is how long these stay in stock relative to numbers available to buy. I wouldn't be surprised if they sell better than the prices suggest.

This article gives you the facts on your i7.

If you keep it and OC, it will still have limits at 1080p. At 4k, not so much, but then its a gpu/monitor upgrade.
I noticed a big change going from Sandybridge to Skylake, so dropping in a 6 or 8 core 2020 cpu will be a big upgrade, that with fast ddr4 and pcie m.2 ssd.
But its all £££'s! I would do a full upgrade in your position, then you know you are sorted for 5 years +.
