Ryzen 5700X coming for $300

I could save about £150 by going for a B660-I, but what features will I lose, if any that actually matter to me.

From what I can see, the main difference is that the Z690 version has an additional LAN, 2 thunderbolt ports and 'better' audio. I think with Z490 Intel restricted 11th gen upgrades only to Z or H470 boards, so that's a potential negative (in that you my be excluded from 13th gen), but to save £150 I don't think I'd care. Nearly £400 for a motherboard is insane.

I was considering the 12700K. However I don’t think there is enough thermal headroom to run at 190W for long periods if any meaningful duration at all. The 5700X has got my interest as it is a 65W TDP so about 88W. I have a 5800X so I’m guessing the performance is not too far on a 5800X on ECO 65W settings and runs a lot cooler.

If you're only gaming I don't think that will matter and the long-term workload results (e.g. blender) don't show significant drop-offs versus Zen 3 CPUs. Zen 3 is more efficient at these tasks though, especially the 5900X and 5950X.

Actually I was originally speccing up a budget AMD build for the ITX with the 5600X, this was about 3 - 4 weeks ago just before we had any concrete news on any 5700X 5800X3D etc etc. For not a lot more outlay I wanted to see what pricing the 5700X would land in before committing, but obviously diving into that rabbit hole can get expensive. PS still not pulled the trigger yet :p

What?

I didn’t mention the 5700x. The new 5600 makes the 5600x a pointless purchase.

Tho the new 5700x also pretty much puts the final nail in the coffin for the 5600x.

Yup...

It also kills off the 5800X, the 5700X is basically the same CPU, with a few tweaks it can be made exactly the same, if not better given its newer silicon and probably a B2 stepping.

Edit: i do think once they are out in the wild and people who know what they are doing play with it it will show up my 5800X which is a golden sample.

And by people who know what they are doing i don't mean tech journalists, they are clueless, i mean real enthusiasts.
