Ryzen 7 1700 vs i7 7700k for gaming

Ok cool. So next and last question, with the money saved would it be wise to put it towards a k7 over a gaming 5

I looked into this and don't think so. Same VRMs etc. apparently. I would put any extra money into ensuring you have some B-die Samsung RAM at 3200+

I have g skill RGB 3600c17 which runs well at 3333c14 and hopefully can go faster as future BIOS releases come out.

There is a long thread on this in the memory forum if you want other cheaper alternatives. There's a link in there about page 10 or so that lists all of the single rank B die stuff which is what you want.

Seems to be a very good board for the price. Doesn't look to bad either!
In fact if this had a debug LED on there I'd see no reason to get the crosshair over this.

Yeah, and is almost 1/3 the price of the Titanium, showing the same perf, and 1/2 the price of the CH6!

Shame is not mIXT size. Because I am dithering atm between Ryzen 7 & mITX or Ryzen 9 and full fat ATX :/

The Ryzen 7 + mITX it will go in the P3/P1, with full custom WC (420mm XE or smaller in the case of the P1), the other on the P5 with full custom 480mm XE. I have printed the parts I need to make them full glass enclosure without paying for the upgrade kit also.

You see from one side I want to downsize the case size, on the other I want many cores for Unity engine rendering. And doubt we going to see mITX X399 board due to the size of the socket.
Choices choices...

Memory scaling.Intel gains around 20-40% performance only from faster memory in most games.7700k with 3200Mhz ram is way faster than any other cpu including 5960x and 6900k.

The benchmarks are from 2 months ago. At best could be called outdated, if not ancient.
There are many changes on the Ryzen platform, BIOS, windows updates and program updates that occurred since. You have to see reviews over the last couple of weeks which present the real picture.

for example, 1600X at stock speeds, is as fast (if not faster in some places) than the 6700K/7700K at stock speeds in Tomb Raider, with GTX1080 @ 1080p.
The game where even the Ryzen 7 tanked just a month ago.

I have not seen the VRM's on the strix board yet but pro overclockers have a few worries about running 8 cores at high speeds on the current B350's

I couldn't see any detailed information on the Asus website (or I least I couldn't find it among the marketing guff) but it looks to be a 6+2 vs 8+2 on the 370 version (Digi VRM+ quoted for both in the spec sheet).

Would the lack of a type C USB 3.1 on the Strix be relevant over the coming years? My next mobo has to last 3-5 years. Guess adding an expansion card is an option if I really need that connector in the future?

Should I upgrade my i5 2500k for i7 7700k ? I game at 2.5k with 1080 TI , Would I notice a jump in FPS ?
You would notice a considerable FPS jump in games and smoothness in overall gameplay.

As to whether you should upgrade to a i7 7700 comes down to personal choice. Personally, I would choose the Ryzen path for longevity and extra cores.

An interesting read for those on the fence
In the Frametime measurements, the image is reversed. Even a Ryzen 5 1500X then beats a Core i7-7700K and leaves the Core i7-6850K clearly in view of the different price. The statements are more interesting, especially for higher resolutions. In critical scenes Ryzen therefore delivers more performance than the Core series. On the average, Intel is faster than AMD.

So for the higher average i7 wins, however in 99th percentile frametimes even the 1500x beats the 7700k.

Hi all, Just upgraded from a 3770k at stock ( It never liked to be OC ) to a Ryzen OC to 3.8 Stable and the difference for me is brilliant. Games are smoother and Im not getting random pauses on my 3770k in games like BF1. Desktop feels zippier as well and multi tasking. Best upgrade ever. MB + CPU and 32 GB Ram for £480.
