I dont know, taking a quick look, the top endZ790 seems more expensive then X670 but Z790 is £50 cheaper then X670 on the low end, not really that much in it

Maybe so but the platform prices in general shot up in the last few years, plus I'm happy enough with my current system. Potentially my last system as well as pc gaming is nothing but half assed ports for the most part.:(

Z690 or even B660 boards work with 13th gen - and are much cheaper than anything AM5.

MSI PRO H610M-B DDR4 for example can be had brand new less than £100. DDR4 board, will run a 13900KS.

I can see

You'll be wasting installing k part in that motherboard you can't tweak the CPU , no memory overclocking, and power limit on that board will be weak

Personally wouldn't install any k part in any motherboard thats locked

On the other hand AMD b650 boards are not locked so you can do the same as you would on x670 boards

That just feels like a dirty pairing.

Like when a 19 year old woman is dating a 75 year old. Like, it theres technically nothing wrong but im still not happy with the situation.

AM5 has other arguments such as platform support for the next few years.

The lowest entry Intel board you want is the Z690 MSI Pro-A. It's as capable as any of the higher end DDR4 boards. Beyond that you're spending for personal preference and more connectivity options.

Do not get a K sku with a non Z board. For non k, do with whatever is cheapest with the connectivity you want.

To get my type of numbers you can basically get everything important sub 700 easily:
13600k/f
Z690 MSI Pro-A D4
Good 2x16 Dual Rank mem

That should all be sub 700.

Anyone else not sure what Motherboard to get for the 7xxx3D? With a couple more upgrades available after with the Zen5 and Zen5X3D I'm not sure whether to go the cheap route with a B650e or get a more premium X670e to give more headroom for future upgrades.

what do you mean by more headroom for future upgrades ? both boards are unlocked you can get b650e boards with pcie 5.0 and gen 5 m.2 unless you need more ? or some other feature needed ?

If I go down the x3D route then I`ll get a X670e board and some DDR5 ram but if the performance is only on par with Intel 13th gen then I`ll be looking at something like Robert896r1 has posted above and keep my DDR4, all depending on the reviews now.

Definitely a marketing strategy to force the impulse buy of the 12/16 core products. Either that of they have stock shortages of the 7800X3D and are not wanting back orders.

@Gibbo might as well be the first to ask. Can you speculate as to rough UK pricing based on current market conditions and if and when preorders will go live?

You may see the USD MSRPs with a GBP figure, so $699 would be £699 and that is including the VAT as US MSRP's exclude sales tax which is state dependent. But I only forsee this if stock is in plentiful supply as the margin is peanuts based on hitting such price so would need really good stock volumes to hit such prices otherwise supply and demand will play the major factor in pricing......

I’m happy to pay £799 if you give Haribo for free as well

Thanks for the update i think we are accustomed to the 1:1 ratio if stock isn't in short supply. Have AMD given yourselves or retailers NDA lift dates when we can see the performance and have you any provisional dates for pre orders , or will it just be a case of go live on the release dates?

Any word on when the pre order will be?

Given us nothing so far, we only know what you know.

With a GBP worth around 1.19-1.23 USD with VAT the one to one with USD will remain, once GBP earns 1.25+ consistently is when even with VAT the UK MSRP will drop below US ones.

I'm not so sure. I mean they priced their GPUs sky high despite the performance being pretty mediocre but having said that I don't expect the jump from zen4 > 3DX to be as large as it was for zen 3 due to the DDR5 memory being less of a bottleneck.
The cache is mainly to alleviate latency not bandwidth. And DDR5 has slightly higher latency than DDR4 still.
Also this being the 2nd implementation of V-Cache, it might have additional tweaks/improvements to that of the Zen3 version.
