Poll: Ryzen 7950X3D, 7900X3D, 7800X3D

Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

They always have? Well not always? When Zen 2 came aboard in July 2019, there was the 3900X as highest core count CPU. It took until late November for the highest end CPU 3950X 16 core CPU to come on board.

The 7800X3D is best of bunch because no games benefit from more than 8 cores and only has one CCD with 96MB of cache.

Where as 7900X3D has 2 CCDs with only 6 cores each and only one of them is gaming CCD with 96MB L3 cache instead of standard 32MB L3 cache. And only 6 cores on a gaming CCD.

Well the 7950X does have an 8 core CCD with 96MB L3 cache and also a regular 8 core CCD with only 32MB L3 cache. So you still get one gaming CCD as good as the 7800X3D plus an additional one for workhorse tasks. But make sure to lock all game threads to the 3D cache CCD. And use the other for tons of background tasks if you have lots of them. But for just gaming unless you have a plethora of background stuff, more than 8 or even 6 cores benefits no games at all really and will not anytime soon.
These are the caches for each cpu

Cache sizes
7950X3D - 144 MB (64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 16 MB L2)
7900X3D - 140 MB (64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 12 MB L2)
7800X3D - 104 MB (32 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 8 MB L2)

The vcache is just addition to L3 right? So 32MB +64MB VCAHCE is 96MB. So to me the Ryzen 7800X3D is a 7700X with 64MB extra L3 cache which benefits lots of games. Just like 5800X3D is a 5800X with 64MB extra L3 cache for 96MB total as opposed to standard 32MB L3 cache which benefits lots of games.

Yes it is part of the L3 cache but only available to games that can use it afaik. The dual CCD CPUs will have 32 MB on each each CCD and 64 MB v-cache on one. Which CCD is used will depend on which game/program is optimised for which CCD so it should pick the best CCD to do the job. The other thing to note is both CCDs can run at the same time so it can scale to more than 8 cores. This means background tasks and other non-3D cache optimised game/program processes will run on the other CCD.
 
See what's going on here? Don't buy these "fastest gaming CPU's" buy these cheaper CPU's from Intel i have cherry picked ignoring even cheaper CPU's still from AMD because i'm an angry little #### about AMD not selling their best CPU's for $150 where i can afford them.

he's not saying that, what he is saying is AMD are dangling a carrot in front of PC gamers noses and not to bite if you are a gamer

where AMD is picking up the heat is they are adopting practices which are anti-consumer, yes others do it too

I mean he’s sort of right.

Intel can be tuned to a much larger degree so if you are running stock you are indeed leaving performance on the table but you don’t have to do it.

Like the 5800X3D these new vcache models will be more plug and play and more suitable for mainstream as you are limited in what you can do.

7200 kit should XMP without much trouble on a 2 dimm board but if want 7600 + and/or all timings optimised then need knowledge of DDR5, good IMC and testing = time, or money from a consultation
Decent cooler is fine for gaming 200W for headroom
custom loop direct die or delta TEC for every last % for silly money
 
...Think you're just mad that Ryzen 7000X3D will be faster than even a tuned (read 400W) 13900k, at stock settings XMP (Expo).
Surely Dave, the only person showing any traits of madness would be you? Some of us remember your pre-emptive rants and threads about how great 11th gen would be compared to AMD and then it was barely better than 10th gen....

One would think that you would have learnt to wait for a product, in this case the X3D's, to be released and tested before making bold, declaratory statements but not you by the looks of it.

You *might* have backed a winning horse now in the 7950X3D but please, less of the exaggerations and puerile triumphalism.

I'm guessing we wont have to wait for the release of the 7800X3D for reviews as one can just disable the non 3D cache CCD with a 7950X3D?
 
Do we think the 7950X3D will perform better in everything than the 7800X3D or are we expecting ongoing issues where games don't always use the right CCD and so miss out on the Cache boost?

Should be similar to the difference between the 7950X and 7800X in games - the 7950x3D should be faster all around, thanks to increased clock speed, cache and more cores.

7950X has higher boost clocks and more cache, so would not represent a 7800X3D performance.
A thorough review could do that.
Non 3d cache CCD can be disabled in bios
Boost clocks can be reduced via PBO.

What can't be changed is the silicon quality, assuming better chips go into 7950X3D, so power usage and temps will not be representative.

7950X has higher boost clocks and more cache, so would not represent a 7800X3D performance.

Only higher boost clock on non 3D CCD as the 3D CCD extra cache gimps clock speeds due to the heat/power generated form mass extra cache

I think 7800X3D will trade blows with well tuned 13900K 5.6GHz with e-cores disabled and ring 5GHz and 4000MHz CL15 DDR4 2 X 16GB Dual rank in gaming.

And 7950X3D with the non gaming CCD disabled should be exact same chip and results as 7800X3D.

Benchmarks are available for the 7950X, it has a distinct advantage in games over the 7800X. This is due to increased cores, cache and frequency.

They haven't showed what the boost clock speeds are on the CCD with the cached cores , the 5.7 advertised are the none cached ccd cores

My guess 7950x3d cached ccd will be slightly higher clocked then 7800x3d to give it slightly better gaming results

The Ryzen 9 7900X3D and 7950X3D will debut on February 28th, with the 7800X3D arriving on April 6th. AMD announced prices for its new CPUs too, with the eight-core 7800X3D at $449, the 12-core 7900X3D at $599 and the 16-core 7950X3D at $699

Think your a bit confused here we are comparing the 7950x3D to the 7800x3D. In a 8 core limited game (majority of games) the performance in gaming should be pretty much the same as the 8 cached cores are identical in cache and frequency. Any game that uses more than 8 cores will favour the 7950x3D though.
