S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Has anyone managed to get reshade working with any CoP?. It installs correctly, but I can't open the in game console.

More recent reshades don't work iirc, I had to use a very old version to get it going, didn't even have the in-game console.

When did some of the Stalker devs leave the Stalker games and move onto Metro? Was it after they finished work on all 3 games? I really hope they still have a good team that will do Stalker 2 justice. I have been playing the Misery mod loads recently and can't get over how good it is. I know the modders changed a lot of the gameplay, but its still the same atmospheric game world the Stalker devs created at its core.

Despite being a massive Metro fan I never enjoyed the Stalker games.

I enjoyed it but always seemed to die of radiation as the game progressed, you suddenly heard a clicking noise, then got a warning and had to run for a certain shelter, if you didn't get there you were dead. Drinking Vodka and taking antirad plus carrying certain artifacts were supposed to help but my health kept going down and down. According to comments on forums there was a radiation bug with no fix

I think they left before Call of Pripyat, but it may of been before Clear Sky. I couldn't get on with Misery, I like to enjoy the games I play and it was too harsh, You should try Call of Chernobyl on Moddb. It's a standalone game based on the freeplay mode, It has over 30 maps including all those from the 3 games and you can choose your faction, Every map's populates with bases missions etc. IMO it's the Ultimate mod for Stalker. https://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl

I've never heard of that, maybe it was fixed in one of the patches years ago as the first 2 games were buggy and required several patches before they were all fixed up.

Yeah I felt the same way at first and actually gave up and uninstalled after an hour or so as it just seemed too hard and confusing with all the extra items. Then I started playing Homefront the revolution, which just felt like a super casual kids game compared with Misery and I kept wanting to install misery again. It takes a good few hours to get into it and get used to the new items and what they all do and then it actually becomes fairly easy. I found the other stalker mods were just a bit too easy as I'd end up with an end game Nato weapon within the first hour and then the rest of the game was a cake walk from that point.

Saving up for the gas cooker and then hunting mutants with the shotgun seemed to work really well for building up some cash as shotgun shells are pretty cheap and effective against boars and fleshes. Once you have been on a few hunting runs you can save up and buy the sunrise suit and the game gets a bit easier with the added protection and the day and night camoflage is decent, so you can sneak away from most enemies without fighting. There are quite a few stashes near by the ship that can get you some weapon repair kits and other useful stuff. If you find a spas shotgun the game becomes a lot easier as this will take out most mutants with ease. I killed Noah to acquire mine early on and then used a shotgun repair kit i found on a dead merc to fix it up.

It's good to know that the devs leaving to work on metro didn't negatively affect Stalker then. Hopefully they still have a good team. I'll be gutted if it ends up being a console focused game, but maybe the current modding scene will stick around to fix it if it does.

An emission? You do need to shelter from these or it kills you. It usually marks the nearest shelter on your map and the vanilla game gives you ample time to get there. There are also pills you can take to survive an emission if you're caught out too far from shelter.

Its probably worth playing again with a mod like the complete mod, which squashes a lot of bugs and tarts up the gfx, without changing vanilla gameplay too much. There are probably better mods than the complete mod that someone can recommend, but they worked fine for me for a first run through of each game. Then after that you can try more hardcore mods like the Misery mod, if you want a challenge.

This is an interesting read for fans of the First Stalker game. Although the end of the article is slightly worrying regarding Stalker 2.

Expansions Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat followed in the years after but the big sequel never did. GSC, under dubious management, was closed. Staff filtered out, most of them to either start-up Vostok Games, which is now making Stalker-inspired battle royale game Fear the Wolves, or to 4A Games, creator of the tonally-similar Metro series. GSC did not close completely, and even recently announced Stalker 2 development, but with the all the talent now elsewhere the company is a ghost of what it once was. I'll be surprised if the game ever comes out.
