S.T.A.L.K.E.R Collectors Edition and further confirmation from THQ regarding release.

Preview at bit-tech:

Our current build requires a pretty monster PC to run smoothly, and we're hoping that this will not be the case in the final version, as tweaks and polish make the game more efficient. We do expect, however, that on a decent set-up the game will look spectacular - GSC has integrated a bespoke physics engine, HDR lighting and widescreen support to make the game look pretty awesome.
So it looks like it is not using the old HL2 engine but perhaps a later version like the one used in Episode one

It would be lazy, but not wildly off the mark, to describe S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as Oblivion with guns. And radiation.
If that is true it will be Game of the Year material

It uses their own engine called X-ray.

From Wiki

X-Ray graphics engine
The X-ray Engine is a powerful cutting-edge DirectX 9 engine, unique and yet unparalleled in many respects. Up to a million polygons will be on-screen at any one time. The engine also boasts HDR effects, dynamic lighting, soft shadows, widescreen support, weather effects and more. The game takes place in a four square kilometre area, and both the outside and inside of this area is rendered to the same amount of detail. Some textures in the game were simply photographs of the walls in the developers' studio.

These previews are quite positive and PC Gamer is supposed to have the exclusive review in it's next issue, out next Thursday.

I will almost certainly buy it, even if the reviews are not the best..as long as it gets over 70% in a few, I will give it a try.

all this hype and still 1 month from release!

Yes and quite right too.

This game has had one of the most tortured development cycles in PC gaming except for DNF.

Hence the hype :) .

Perhaps thats the case but the price of the limited edition is the same as the normal edition. So they don't have much to gain imo.

No way...that will be Crysis :p

PS You heard it here first ;)
Nope, Crysis will be a massive disappointment, only good graphics and no athmospere, STALKER will look great and have good gameplay.

Really? Who told you that...your crystal ball?

On what basis have you come to the decision that Crysis will be a massive disappointment and have no atmosphere? Have you played the finished article? I think not!

No, don't be stupid, it was a magic 8-ball :p

Don't get all fired up over it, I just think that Crysis will be another boring FPS like HL2/Far Cry/Quake4

I have just checked my status of my pre-order for this game and forund that I have been upgraded to the Collectors edition. Is this the norm or are they just releasing it as a CE due to the lateness of the release

Quite happy either way, as its only costing me £17.99 :)
