S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Lost Alpha

STALKER was always like this. Even rigs that could max out crysis wouls struggle with STALKER, not sure if it's a coding/optimisation thing. Plus, Lost Alpha adds a LOT to th engine that the 8 year old SoC didn't have. It's been updated to Dx10.1 etc too remember.

Somone in the Bar keeps closing the door and standing behind it so I can't get through. I didn't hear any giggling, but I swear I am going to kill that **** when I find out who is doing it.

So how are people finding this then? I've played about an hour, and so far the quests are similar but the location is noticeably very different. Just wondering if the game is too big? Is it baron, or is it populated with dynamic NPCs etc? Many quests?

Also a question for those who play this 3rd person and aware of the cover advantage trick in ME3 MP. Does that work here also?

I'm holding off until Dezowave finish it the way they originally intended. Sure, there are plenty of unofficial patches around which solve issues / work well, but I'd rather experience it from the developer perspective, not some other modder. :)

Re : #244 - I turned grass density down as low as it would go, and disabled grass shadows completely. With a 7970 @ 1100 - 1175, I was getting fps as low as the high 20s. Reducing / turning off SSAO will help bolster fps greatly, but I found leaving that at ultra and doing the aforementioned things worked well enough for me.

Unfortunately, the engine does most of the work on one cpu core, though it does use a second core some of the time.

I've played up until the garbage hangar mission without any problems and been really impressed so far, but like arc@css says I'm going to wait for a few more patches after hearing about broken missions and the like.

Playing some CoP with the SGM 2.2 mod at the mo, which is pretty darn fun! Anyone recommend a decent mod for Clear Sky? Never really give much time to CS, it's never really gripped me like SoC or CoP have.

Cheers arc@css, Clear Skies and Mystery sound good. Mystery selling itself as MISERY for Clear Sky has got to be worth checking out!

I think I've played most of the well known CS mods out there, though it has been a while so I can't remember in what state they were / are in. From memory, Mystery was good, as was The Warmongers. I tinkered with Clear Skies recently, but seem to recall that I had quite a bit of instability with it once I got to a certain point in the game.

As with most mods, they are works in progress. :)

Ha, very true:) I've learnt to use each xray engine crash as an opportunity to regain my zen after being in the harshness of the zone:D

Absolutely fantastic standalone game albeit with many bugs in it's current state.
The gameworld is HUGE and is dripping with atmosphere. I run on 2560x1600 res at maxxed out settings on DirectX 10.1 and it's smooth as silk although after a period of time playing, my fps halves until I exit the game and restart. It also looks stunning in many places.

I have, however, encountered a game breaking bug in which a certain person is in a wrong place and consequently, his lack of a certain dialogue option halts my progress in the main plot. I'm sure these bugs will be fixxed and I enjoyed what I have played so far to the extent that I felt the need to donate to the Dezowave Team.

Installed this game and it runs fine but apart from being far more busy it appears to differ very little from the original release.

I've visited the dead stalker, been tasked with going to the other one (called Nimble in the original) but after plying SOC, Oblivion Lost and Stalker complete I really can;t be bothered to play through the same missions again.

Does it differ at all?

There will be many areas that you haven't seen before, and some of the ones that you are familiar with will be quite different in design. That said, I'm waiting quite a while before going back to it, as I'd much rather Dezowave finish what they set out to do before I get my feet wet again.

I'm giving it a year myself due to the fact that I only just finished a 4th play through of SOC. Sounds like it would be a good idea in any case, especially if it is not that much different to SOC overall.

It is very different, but yes, I think leaving it to mature would be advisable. There's little shortage of other mods around.

I'm enjoying STALKER LA, and have around 6 hours in it. Like typical STALKER, I cannot get AA to work. I've tried in game, forcing FXAA, MSAA. Any ideas? Also see as the engine is massively updated since the original SoC, which compatibility options in nVidia Inspector should I be using? Any tips or working settings would be massively appreciated.

Artefacts are weird to find. I went through all of Cordon and Garbage and had only one artefact (jellyfish). I'm in Agroprom catacombs and have 4 slugs, 2 or 3 slimes, flash and another endurance boosting one whose name I forget (let's call it Duracell).
