S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Lost Alpha

It's working okay now. Performance improved a lot when I turned grass shadows off. (+20 frames) :)

The only issue I'm seeing now is the sky disappears every now and again. (i.e. turns plain white, and then a second later it'll be blue with clouds)

And good god. For the life of me I could not figure out how to add ammo to my guns. Turns out all you have to do is double click on the ammo in inventory.

Yeah, turning off grass shadows helps. I think the sky disappearing was one of the original problems present with the initial release; after the first patch I never saw that again.

I forgot how to use the ammo, too. :D

I was looking all over online how to do it. :p

There's an option to "add to belt" but that won't work, have to double click. Sure I'll love it once I get further in, can't say no to a game with loot.

I've heard a lot about this game, but in all honesty I don't actually know what sort of game it is. Is it like a sort of single player DayZ, or is it more like a Skyrim sort of thing. I've seen hundreds of screenshots and it looks fantastic, but I don't know if it's the sort of game I'd be interested in playing. Can anyone who's got it, give me an insight into what it's actually like to play?

The stalker series is a first person shooter game with rpg mechanics, set in a semi-open world. The theme has horror elements to it.

Just to add to the above post, It's one of those games you have to 'get into' by putting a good few hours into it and be in the mood to immerse yourself into it . I didn't like it when I first tried it, but then tried it again a few years later with the Complete mod and it is now one of my all time favourite games. The atmosphere and setting is just fantastic, if you like looking at pictures of Chernobyl, you will love exploring the zone.

The zone is a dangerous place, filled with enemy factions, mutants, radiation and anomalies. It's a harder game when you first start as the weapons you find at first are rubbish, but after a while you will come across some really good weapons to even the odds. There is a main story, but also side missions, plus sometimes just getting to the next mission can turn into a fight for survival if you happen across a bunch of mutants.

So is it a single player only game, but along the same sort of lines of DayZ (or Fallout you make it sound like). I much prefer games that require you to play for a good few hours at a time, rather than drop in and out type games, as it feels far more immersive.

It's definitely a game you could sit and play for hours and hours. I haven't played Dayz, but Fallout is similar in ways. Similar sort of setting to Fallout but a lot less dialogue.

Sounds like your kind of game. :)

Right that's it, I'd adding it to my list of games I want :D The trouble is I've already got a stack of games I need to work though and never seem to have the time. Still it's not like I'm the only person to have Steam games sitting there unplayed..... :(

I suggest you start with Stalker, I also have a backlog of games and I just picked up stalker for the first time and now Its the only game that seems to be keeping my attention for way more than an hour or two.

Game is way more difficult than first suspected. Enjoying it but died a few times from radiation before realizing I had to use a kit. Killed everyone to save fox, didn't seem like there was a second option.

Played 6+ hours of lost alpha today. Awsome mod/game. One thing I have noticed, is it seems to have a memory leak. After so many large areas loading in succession, the FPS drops along with GPU usage but memory usage goes up, not sure why. After a game restart FPS is back to normal.

Anyone tried the patch yet? Has it improved performance, fixed owt? I'm busy with Skyrim at the moment but i'll probably be playing this next if the news is good. :)

They have addressed the codec issue by including that in the setup so it gets installed along with the patch. :)
Not been able to play yet, hopefully soon.

Well the last time I tried to install that DivX codec or whatever it is, it ended up somehow erasing/uninstalling my whole bloody game! No idea if anyone here has had the same issue but hopefully this patch fixes it.
