The fact we're still 5th really is astonishing, and shows how poor the league has been this season.

I think you'd be much lower down the table without De Gea personally, I'd be surprised if he's not with RM come next season. Quite a few matches this season he's made some top quality saves only for you to nick a goal down the other end.

It's less predictable but I'm not sure you can call it more entertaining. The football is dull as dishwater.

I only watch the highlights anyhow.

And with the champ's league now unavailable, I'm thankful that the prem league is more open.

When the top 4 was set in stone, at least the champ's league would provide them some competition. But as said, with the CL in BT's hands, there's on the prem left.

So personally I'm happy that the top 4 aren't unassailable this year.

Let's face it every manager has a dip, look at Wenger, Mourinho just to name a few. The fact of the matter is LVG needs to change things and quick, otherwise he might be the next Mourinho except for LVG it might be an early retirement.

Still you have to or I do at least admire his bravery and tenacity for putting up / fighting with the media.

And the end of the day though, actions speak louder than words, so we'll just have to wait and see whether judgement day has come early for Van Gaal :D

Are the current ManU squad underachieving, or getting results consistent with their ability?

A lot of people have expressed an opinion that Fergie in his final season managed to get an average squad to over-achieve.

It's hardly the Gallacticos we're talking about. You've got "Elbows" Fellaini and Ashley Young :p They'd walk into any non-league pub reserve team, I'll give you that.

Not exactly Barcelona. Short of a miracle, who's going to do any better with that lot?

I've thought about this a lot and the team isn't amazing, but it's not nearly as bad as the performances have been this season. The manager has got them scared to play creative football and take chances.

Neither of those should be first team starters though. One has mostly played because we've had some horrific injuries to full backs (and don't have enough anyway) and the other plays because LvG is a ******* idiot.

Well i guess that confirms Pep to Man City, Pellegrini has announced he's leaving at the end of the season.

Also confirmed pep to take over

Another easy job for pep

maybe one day he will take a challenge and try to prove if hes actually a quality manager or not

In 10 years time I think united will look back and think. How did we manage to **** it all up so badly. The only part of the club that is doing even 10% as well as it should is the business side of things. Almost everything related to the football has just been dire. It's just painful watching all our rivals do things that we should whilst we make the wrong decisions at every turn. If LvG isn't gone by the end of the season and an actual top class replacement found I just give up.

If giggs is our master plan I have literally no words to describe how sad that will be.

It does:

MAN CITY CLUB STATEMENT

"Manchester City can confirm that in recent weeks it has commenced and finalized contract negotiations with Pep Guardiola to become MCFC Head Coach for the 16/17 season onwards. The contract is for three years. These negotiations were a re-commencement of discussion that were curtailed in 2012.

"Out of respect for Manuel Pellegrini and the players, the club wishes to make its decision public to remove the unnecessary burden of speculation. Manuel Pellegrini, who is fully supportive of the decision to make this communication, is entirely focused on achieving his targets for the season ahead and retains the respect and commitment of all involved with the leadership of the Club."

Yep as much I like Pep, i hope he fails miserably at city. It's no huge surprise he was going to City as they have a couple of ex barca directors there.

I would have liked to see him at Arsenal as we play the sort of football he likes, will be interesting to see if City can adapt to his methods and play consistently well.

I'd say they are slightly underachieving. They should have qualified for the knock-out stages of the CL, and should score more goals (even Sunderland have scored as many as them in the league, and you can't really compare them for ability).

In terms of league performance relative to ability, you'd have to say the only two squads that are blatantly better are MC and Chelsea. Average the points earned by those two this season and it is less than MU have got. Realistically they should be scrapping with Arsenal and perhaps Spurs, but Leicester have massively over-performed compared with expectations which has offset the under-performance from Chelsea.

I do think LVG's tactics have something to answer for. Many times this season I've seen him pick what on paper should be a moderately attacking lineup (wingers at fullback, only one true holding midfielder etc). Yet the focus on possession has meant perhaps not enough chances being created that you'd normally expect based on the personnel.
