There are a few people I would rather manage us than Mourinho but right now most of them don't look available and he is bar far the best option I think we can realistically get.

I believe they're non executive directors so they have no actual power or influence. The actual board of directors can be found here:

http://ir.manutd.com/corporate-governance/board-of-directors.aspx

If you think Fergie, Gill and Charlton have no influence at all you are completely off your rocker

Whether its written down or official is completely irrelevant - between them they will have a great deal of influence and therefore power.

Of course , in this case, they may well still lose - but their opinion will have been listened to and been considered.

From wiki

A non-executive director (abbreviated to non-exec, NED or NXD) or external director is a member of the board of directors of a company or organisation who does not form part of the executive management team. They are not employees of the company or affiliated with it in any other way and are differentiated from inside directors, who are members of the board who also serve or previously served as executive managers of the company (most often as corporate officers). However they do have the same legal duties, responsibilities and potential liabilities as their executive counterparts.[1][2]

Non-executive directors are directors who act in advisory capacity only. Typically, they attend monthly board meetings to offer the benefit of their advice and serve on committees concerned with sensitive issues such as the pay of the executive directors and other senior managers; they are usually paid a fee for their services but are not regarded as employees.[3]

I'm fully aware of what a non executive director is Frank and it is exactly as I said. But if you don't believe me, this is what David Gill has to say on the matter:

Gill on Louis Van Gaal's Future

"It is not for me. I am not the spokesperson for Manchester United. I am not involved in those discussions quite rightly, I am a non-executive director. That is being led quite rightly by Ed and his team and I am not going to be drawn on those particular questions. I am not privy to those conversations quite rightly.

“There are two boards at Manchester United. There is the quoted company board which is on the New York Stock Exchange and that is where all the key decisions are taken. That is the one I was chief executive of and that is the one Ed Woodward current runs.

“The football board on which I sit and Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson for instance is much more an ambassadorial board. It talks about various football matters but we wouldn’t get into those discussions. Ultimately if the holding company board wishes to discuss those issues with us it will do on an individual basis.”

As Gill says, they might be consulted (but he says they haven't been) but their advice carries no power.

INFLUENCE was mentioned initialy baz, maybe you should look up the meaning

Whether its formal or not, I can bet there will be discussions behind the scenes

As He says there are two boards, one of which he sits on - which is exactly what I said all along. He wont (officially) be in discussions with the Executive board (on the NYSE), but he (and the others mentioned) will talk to a few of the members of that board and their opinion heard in one way or another.

(and it goes without saying) he will obviously only state in public what his official role is. Its how huge businesses like this work.

Why do you always do this Frank? It's embarrassing. If you can't admit you're wrong and that you have no idea what you're talking about then just avoid the topic, rather than dig and dig.

I know the meaning of influence and I know what I said. Non exec directors are token gesture positions more often than not. David Gill openly admits that he has no say in the managerial position nor does he know what's being discussed and that he's a glorified ambassador and you're still going to argue otherwise? **** me.

To be fair, there is every chance that Gill and Ferguson have more influence than their position suggests and perhaps more than they realise. It all depends on how much stock the board puts in their opinions. I'm sure Mourinho will have been discussed by them all at some point in the past 3 years and even if that was 3 years ago, Woodward will know their feelings on the man.

Ultimately I hope that our next manager is picked on pedigree more than anything else at the moment because we are on the edge of falling out of the top teams in England, let alone Europe.

Yes its a hard job because of the scale of it but honestly its one of the easiest top managerial positions about. What other club would stick by their manager like the club and fans have done for so long and allow them to spend vast sums without getting any semblance of real progress. Any other club would have sacked him after Christmas at the very latest.

Apologies if it's a repost but on SSN earlier they were saying according to sources, the only reason we haven't sacked LvG is due to the fact it would cost us £12.5m in compensation.

Quite ironic that they have been afraid to spend £12.5m to bin him off in December which has probably ended up costing us well in excess of £50 million in league position reward and champions league money

Odd

I have mentioned that in the past with regards to the manager when people have said it was to save money. The only reason I could believe that is if they genuinely thought he would turn it around after Christmas. At this point I can believe that saving 12.5m would be something they consider but even then I think the bigger issue is getting someone in to replace him who would be better.

If this is all true, it means that the board genuinely believed (and probably still believe) that he can turn it around.

We are currently in 6th place now and seem to be dropping like a stone.
LVG appears to be unsackable.

The thing is, LvG is just delaying the inevitable.

We're now 6th, and dropping to 7th is more likely than gaining on 4th. Then we'll soon be out of the Europa League no doubt (maybe not to Liverpool), and the same in the FA Cup. And by then, when it all spectacularly implodes more so than it has already, it'll be too late to salvage anything - not that there would be any guarantees either way.

I don't believe for one moment that the only reason they haven't dumped LvG is down to £12.5m compo they'd have to pay.
If they wanted to get rid of him they would just do it, that amount of money is nothing to Man.U.
It's not even half a Fellaini.
