Saints Row: The Third

Not particularly a fan of the car physics, certainly not as fun as the cars in GTA4, you can't throw them around very much and I've still not managed to go sideways around a corner...

Only bugs I've seen so far are hitting a traffic light and the car flying 100ft in the air. Also doing the first mission I went to the clothes shop to get an outfit after spending 10mins picking clothes I exit the shop interface to find a full scale gun battle in the shop with the local gang and my sidekick, cars everywhere, the special move gang member and the flame thrower mutant thing all racing around.

That's where you're wrong.

It's far easier to hurl RWD a car into a corner in GTA4 and go sideways round it, exactly how it should be. Also finer movements are more precise.

You're one of those rubbish at driving cars in games people :p

I think it really depends on what you're looking to get out of the game. I prefer hurtling around with reckless abandon, which the handling in SR lets me do. I can make it through gaps in the road, take corners and perform handbrake turns etc. with not issues. Whereas in GTA 4 I just got major frustrated with the more realistic handling. It just isn't particularly fun to me, but I can appreciate others will love it for how realistic it is, adding to the immersive feel of the whole thing.

To put it kind of in context... would Crazy Taxi really have been as much fun if it handled like a real car? I don't think so. It is what it is, and the two games can't really be compared for that as they're aiming for entirely different types of play.

Yeah saints row cars feel like saints row cars. Not much else to say, but this is judged on the xbox version I got on yesterday (son's copy). I can't test the PC version against it until tomorrow.

But I also agree I do like the GTA IV handling.

I have my game, but steam won't let me install it :(

Same as me. I can pre-load it, but can't activate it.

Is there a way to install from the disc? Everytime I try to install a game through Steam, it makes me download the bloody thing, even if I have the physical copy in the drive. It's a pain in the arse as I'm quite a way from the nearest exchange and the most I can get is 1.2mps speed and that [i[very[/i] rarely stays that high.

I'm all for stopping those that ride the high seas, but it's an unnecessary penalty to genuine customers that don't live in major conurbations.

Never had steam do that and I buy more discs then downloads as they tend to be cheaper with more stuff. Everytime I install a game from disc it just works, it makes you think it is going to download but it just installs from disc then downloads any patches after.

I'm struggling to get into this. I've done the first couple of missions and had a go at a survival mission where I got owned.

I don't know if it's an enjoyable game or not.

Agree with the driving aswell. It isn't really as fun and GTA4 is far superior to anything else.

3, vice city, SA have better driving than 4
Just.... no. The physics in GTA4 were awesome, they actually felt like real cars with suspension models, driven wheels, weight, even tyre physics. You could tell the difference between FWD, RWD and 4WD in GTA4. In comparison, VC and SA cars felt much more simple and less convincing, like it was just doing calculations for the whole car at once using look-up tables, and not for individual tyres.

Sure SA was easier to drive, but for that reason it was less satisfying. Driving at high speed without hitting anything and sliding round corners took some real skill in GTA4.
