Samsung 24" and 27" CFG70 144 Hz / 34" CF791 100Hz VA FreeSync

Found a pretty major issue with design.

The adapter for the power brick is not removable.

It's supplied with both a UK and EU adapter, the former was loose in the bottom of my box so thought they hadn't included one, and used a second adapter for EU > UK initially. On trying to remove the EU one, it appears that it's permanently locked. Trying to pry it off with the blade of a screwdriver just destroyed the fascia of the brick.

Called a friend who also received a unit - they're running their unit at 60Hz / Normal outside of gaming to avoid the brightness / strobe issues - and asked if they could remove their adapter. They confirmed that theirs was locked on and not removable either.

Just WHYYYYYYYY, like the no option to disable strobe ...

You might have been able to return it from where you bought it, just paying return shipping. But if you've now damaged part of it I'm not sure now

Adapters should be removable. They'll take it back.

I'm seeking clarification on whether they intend to revise firmware / driver to allow the strobe to be disabled.

If the answer is no, it's definitely going back.

hmmm, this strobe thing sounds pretty awful actually.
I was actually planning on purchasing one of these with a new rig over the next few days but i might reconsider now.
I am getting an RX480 and thus would be using FreeSync. Do you think if i did, that this would remove the problem or does FreeSync only kick in whilst gaming? Then web browsing and work would still be bad?

Yeah I really wanted to grab one too. But the purple overshoot and strobing puts me off.

PMC what was the date on your monitor? Apparently its much better on November models.

"Some users have referred to this overshoot as ‘purple trailing’ or ‘purple ghosting’ and it’s something that was far more prominent on early revisions. It has actually been reduced on more recent revisions, such as our review sample which was manufactured in November 2016, to far more tolerable levels at 144Hz. "

Do any of you know places that have these monitors on display? After reading all these negatives I now definitely want to see one in person beforehand.

and pmc25 did you fix your issue or are you in the process of returning it?

One of OCuk's competitors has an ETA for January 16th. So I would imagine OCuk get them around then or before. Essentially a 2 week wait. Leaving customer services a web note might answer your question better.

Yeah I've noticed that. Another competitor has an ETA for the 6th too. I've left a web note :)

I noticed this too. This does look like one exciting monitor and I cant wait to get my hands on one. Be nice if there was any deals to kick this monitor off.

I've seen quite a few comments about the c34f791 developing dead pixels after just a couple of hours.

Of the 2 CF791 units I've owned, one had 2 bright stuck pixels noticable immediately. When I returned it to Fry's, the store staff told me their store-display unit also had a dead pixel.

The other CF791, while worse in BLB, is still stuck pixel free, going on day 3..

This is true. Here is my story. DO NOT SHELL OUT on this monitor!

So as I've stated above, HN were fantastic by letting me take the monitor out of the box and check for dead pixels. I am very fussy with how my screen looks and it certainly blew me away. However, last night i discovered that my monitor had a cluster of 5 dead pixels on the left hand corner. There was no dead pixels when i turned it on in the store. Then i discovered two more a few hours later.

I took the monitor back to HN and they opened another and that also had no dead pixels but i left it on for a couple of hours and returned back to discover 11 dead pixels. We even tried a third monitor which again had two stuck pixels after a couple of hours of being on and by then i decided there is a major fault.

The curve is too extreme for the panel and dead pixels form around the corners and in the middle where the panel is stressed the most.

I hope my initial observations and excitement didnt cause anyone to shell out for this disappointment. Samsung has stuffed up in every way in 2016. Hope they change their quality control systems otherwise they are history.

I was having a read around a bunch of forums yesterday and I saw this issue. It seems to be only an issue with this one person in Australia at the moment with others from the USA reporting no issues so hopefully, it is only isolated to that batch.

Can't of looked hard :p, fella doing the microboard comparison video has a big line of pixel faults going down the left side of his screen, but I wouldn't connect the two though.

That Aussie post seems odd to me, the whole curve thing he said doesn't put confidence in me that the issue wasn't there when he first looked. But still, for the price tag these should be absolutely perfect.

Yeah I saw the Keith Thomas video a couple days ago. His issue is visible when in 'Gaming Mode' but not when operating as normal. You would expect better from Samsung for an expensive product like that. I have one on order hopefully it comes out ok.

I guess as long as you order from somewhere with great returns like here its no biggy. But its a shame the whole range seem to be suffering from issues.

Yeah i pre-ordered here. Webnote response was that they was due on 23rd Dec so hopefully they will be here soon. Hope they don't kick out some deals after the pre-orders.

Is return shipping free (to here) if there are stuck pixels/terrible bleed etc? I keep reading about various issues, some of which appear to be fixed through firmware updates.

That channel has quite a lot of info about the 24 & 27in. Seems that the 27in has more issues.

It will be down to Samsungs policy on how many dead pixel, if any, warrant a return. otherwise you'll have to pay the return shipping under DSR

Given these issues, Gibbo's quote is now looking rather like a load of hot air... albeit said honestly and with good intention of course, but if these problems persist it would certainly seem Samsung have ballsed this one up.... another monitor bites the dust. Is it really THAT hard?? [sigh]

I have not seen a single monitor on the market that can even come close to them. Once the G-SYNC versions arrive next year Samsung will be a true force in gaming monitors and the rest of the market will truly have to pick their game up to compete with these.
