** SAMSUNG 4K 240/165HZ ODYSSEY NEO G8/G7 AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER **

Could anyone with experience of the G7 suggest which connection to use from my gaming PC - HDMI or Display Port? Are there any advantages/disadvantage of each or are they the same in terms of image quality and refresh rate?

Image quality with DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 is the same, Both can do the same varying resolutions. As for refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 can go higher alongside a high resolution as it has more bandwidth available, 48 Gbps vs DP1.4's 32 Gbps, Prior to any display stream compression wizardry, Max refresh rate from what I have read is 144Hz at 4K while DP1.4 is 120Hz at 4K, Then through DSC this can be pushed up to a higher refresh rate i.e the monitors native 240Hz refresh rate.

which is the better monitor for gaming and films G8 or the G9

G9 model i can choose is

G8 model i can choose is

ive won a monitor in a comp and need to pick between the two :D

I ordered a G8 today, is there anything I should do/test when I get it through to make sure everything is good? I've read it's calibrated out of the box, any additional settings worth changing?

Thanks

Firmware version 1007 is available for the Neo G8 but only through getting in contact with customer support who at first will deny there is an update as customer support don't actually know anything, Then getting your ticket escalated to an actual engineer that says "Yeah we have firmware 1007, Here it is"..... Samsung really need to work on making it easier to acquire firmware/software updates without jumping through 100 hoops.

So far I have noticed heat output from the monitor in both SDR and HDR seems to be lower, Likely tweaked power usage.

Download link for any that want it - https://www.mediafire.com/file/ctyufk8c68xjcp3/M-B8532GGZA-1007.0%5B4C0B%5D.img.zip/file

If you haven't already, Make sure to download the free Windows HDR Calibration tool from the Microsoft Store, Makes a huge difference -

Hey guys, sorry about possible dumb question but I've got a Neo G7 arriving today and wanting to know what firmware to use on it? I had read before about some newer firmware on Samsung Korea website, is that still case ?

Here you go, Scroll down a bit and you'll find "Upgrade File(USB type) 1007" which is the latest, It's only Neo G8 owners like myself who had to go hunting on the Korean site for an updated firmware as Samsung are quite inept in this regard.

A little advice, Download Rufus to format the USB stick correctly otherwise it won't be recognized by the service port on the back of the monitor.

You have to format it, If memory serves, As a non bootable, I can't remember if the correct option is MBR or GPT but should only take you a few seconds of trial and error to find out.

Awesome, thank you mate

I've been looking at either the Neo G8 or G7. Prices are somewhat identical in the UK for some reason. I've noticed the amount of whining and winging on reddit about scanlines so maybe G7 is probably the best bet? What about VRR flickering? (my ****** G34WQC flickers often) And motion smearing in dark scenes? (G34WQC is disgusting here) I already game in HDR in my living room with my LG C9 so this would be for 90% work/browsing 10% SDR gaming for things like Diablo, CS2 and other keyboard/mouse games. Been also considering an IPS like https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/32gq950-b

I've owned an AOC 27 1440p 165hz IPS with gsync module years ago and loved its response time but that was years ago. My main concern is scanlines, flickering and black smearing :S

Would it be worth going for the Neo G8? If there's scanlines present at 240hz can it be downclocked to 200hz for example? Anyone experiencing very noticeable vrr flickering?

Hi mate, I'm not sure if I can help but I'm just going to give an honest review.

I bought the Neo g8 in June and I have the LS32BG850NUXXU version. I actually did order 2 from different places and the other one turned up which was a newer model the version was LS32BG850NPXXU. I had a quick look online and there wasn't really much info other than it used slightly less power.

I was expecting to have issues with it as like you said a lot of people seemed to have issues. I personally have not had a single issue and I think there was only a few times in Diablo 4 where I saw slight scanlines around the map/in helltides but other than that I've personally noticed none. In recent times I've played
Lies of P
Baulders Gate 3
Starfield
Mortal Online 2
FC24
and many other games but I've defo sank over 1,000 hours into the monitor gaming and maybe 500 for work. I run it at the 240hz mode, I've noticed no flickering. I don't believe it can be downscaled to 200hz, I believe it would be 240hz or 120hz.

Again it could be my eyes and my age but I've noticed no issues. My C1 which I sometimes use in my opinion has a much better contrast when it comes to HDR content. I'm on Windows 10 and have HDR set on for my monitor, I use it for work as well and I mainly use Visual Studio / Visual Studio Code and Azure and I've had no issues, although I do notice on my work laptop the text isn't as crisp as the text I have it on my main computer.

The only thing I did notice when I first got it was that it was super dull, like really dull no matter what mode I had it on. It took me a little bit of fiddling to get it to where I was happy.

Also, last but not least I did a firmware update when I got the monitor, it was a few firmware behind, it took me ages to find the latest version and I only found it by finding a working link in Reddit.

Thinking about it - the only issues I've had and both have happened about 5 or so times (bearing in mind I did switch inputs on my monitor a lot) the screen goes weird - so the game would be reporting that I'm at 120 - 240FPS, however, what I'm actually seeing feels more like 30, and also sometimes the image will look all pixelated and like nothing you've ever seen before. Like I said though these have happened 5 or so times each, possibly less.

It's been a while but there were settings I've changed and other things I followed but that was mainly from looking at posts on reddit. Not sure if this helps but thought I'd give my honest opinion as it's a lot of money to spend on a monitor and I also had a lot of similar concerns.

Like cHk4 I've had a really good experience with my G8 Neo, Personally not had any issues though and games in HDR are smexy !

If you do get the Neo G8 then here is the latest 1007 firmware update, Annoyingly it's not on Samsungs site and I ended up getting it through customer support but it makes a noticeable difference to monitor startup and also slightly lowers heat output and energy use.

I've been looking at either the Neo G8 or G7...
I have a Neo G7, which I got over the G8 to avoid scan lines. If they were the same price I might have chosen differently though.

...What about VRR flickering?..
I did have a little bit of this; rarely it would flicker slightly for a few seconds in games. It hasn't done it for a while though - I'm not sure if that's because I updated the monitor's firmware, or from a GPU driver update. It was never really a problem anyway.

...And motion smearing in dark scenes?...
Small light objects on a dark background can look noticably dimmer when they move, but under most circumstances there is none, or not enough to be visible without specifically looking for it. Generally the monitor is very fast.

...this would be for 90% work/browsing 10% SDR gaming...
HDR is one of the best features of these monitors, so you're missing out if you're not going to make use of it.
