Samsung A70 6.7" 4500 no curved screen ~£400

Hope the camera improvements are significant because the camera is pretty terrible currently.
Terrible compared to what though?

I find it great for my needs, nice clear pictures and video. Only thing I've found is the shutter can be a little slow correspond at times

I actually preferred my old iphone 6S in terms of detail. The noise reduction on the A70 makes everything look blurred and like a painting.

I've had a quick play and it is less heavy handed with the noise reduction now.

I came to this from an iPhone SE - feels huge lol

so I got my A70

and its not much bigger than my 5.5" Redmi Note 4 in its case !

heres a comparison :

I'm not sure whether to fit a screen protector or not. A colleague said to me that the screen protector really only protects against scratches, and that if you dropped the phone the screen would still shatter underneath the protector - is that right ? I do have this case on it currently

which provides some protection maybe not enough, I am going to try a different one.

Id say that's crap (with no scientific evidence) anything between the screen and ground that will absorb impacts will help prevent damage (assuming its in the form of a screen protector not stone)

Well, it maybe made some sense - if the phone drops on the corner, and the case doesn't absorb enough of the shock, the screen could still crack, depends if the screen protector adds strength to it or not.

All I can say is compared to the 3 year old Oneplus 3, the fingerprint recognition is an absolute trainwreck, never recognises my fingerprint ever and is sooo slow.

Also the screen is damaged terribly easily, in 3 years my Oneplus did not scratch as much as my A70 did in 3 days!

i use fingerprint for bank, and ive tried it to log in, its instant for me
i use Facial Recognition to log in though, thats also instant

Fingerprint works 9 times out of 10 for me, no complaints.

With Facial recognition I find it annoying that you still have to swipe as well. Takes two steps. May as well just use fingerprint.

i think i saw a setting that it will open after facial recognition (or other) so you don't have to swipe.
at least im sure there was an option for this, ill have to look again to be sure

ShiWarrior is right Tuvoc, you have the setting "Stay on Lock screen" enabled in Settings > Biometrics and security > Face recognition

Turn that off and it'll just go straight past the lock screen, I use it all the time as the FPR on my A50 is either too slow or just plain unreliable...

ta I need that.... it seems obvious to me the people who write the software never used it... why would I ever want to unlock my phone but stay on the lock screen!
