Thought I might as well bring the mighty Samsung Galaxy spica (i5700) thread back from the dead :p

Here are some new things for our mobile which is pretty neat :D

-Super Circle Battery ported to Spica:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f42/super-circle-battery-ported-spica-1875/

HTC Look a like themes:
-GreenDevDroidv7
http://forum.samdroid.net/f42/greendevdroid-1807/
-BiB Theme v0.2
http://forum.samdroid.net/f42/bib-theme-v0-1-a-790/

We might be getting multi touch very soon (only if you have rooted your mobile though). One of the developers is announcing something tonight :D, so make sure you follow this thread:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/about-multitouch-32/index28.html

Developers have got a much better new 3d driver, that can now play 3d games much more smoothly but there are still some problems which need to be fixed e.g. some missing textures:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/3d-driver-spica-1224/index60.html

-Gallery3D Froyo backported to Eclair / Stable
http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/gallery3d-froyo-stable-1413/

-Nexus One Browser Port mod for Spica (mdpi screen)
http://forum.samdroid.net/f28/nexus-one-browser-port-mod-spica-mdpi-screen-1691/

And we can also get flash on our browser onto 2.1 now :D

-Howto: Flash on Spica (browser too):
http://forum.samdroid.net/f28/howto-flash-spica-browser-too-1688/

And we have also got a home at XDA :D:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=730

Enjoy! :)

I really should root my spica and start flashing custom ROMs etc. :p

Hey guys, I spent an entire day trying to flash a t-mobile one to 2.1, but after following 3 different guides, the same problem persists, I cannot get windows to have the correct drivers showing in the device manager.

I have tried on a winXP machine, as apparently it's a no go on 64-bit win7.

Any ideas?

Anyone successfully flashed their t-mob branded one?

Sorry but I haven't got a clue about the rooting and flashing ROMs etc. :p

Although I have looked through loads of guides and some people say that rooting and flashing the i5700 works fine on windows 7 64 bit, although just double check to make sure yourself, don't want to be responsible encase you brick your mobile trying to flash on w7 64 bit :p

I still haven't put 2.1 on this... why do i find it so confusing? Say i have a T-Mobile branded Spica with Android 1.5 that's locked to T-Mobile (that i should really buy a screen protector and case for), and a PC exclusively running Linux - what's my first step?

Will have to check out some of those links when I get home, need something to make it a bit more fresh :D

Sorry but I have no clue :p, reading how to root and flash a custom firmware onto my spica (well been reading for the past 2 months :p, but thankfully I am already on 2.1 though, came like that straight out of the box) and I am still completely lost on what I have to do :p. So scared xxxxxxx of bricking my mobile :p :o

All I know is that I don't think you have to unlock your mobile from a network locked company, so you can still root and flash but you will still be locked to T-Mobile if that makes any sense :p

Lol yeah same, I am desperate to get most of that stuff on my mobile, especially the multi touch.

O and BTW everyone with spicas, multi touch is being released tonight :D

Some developer has got the audio working for froyo on the spica now as well :D, and I think leshak is announcing something tonight as well, hopefully it will be a fully working froyo ROM :p

And we can apparently overclock our spicas to 1Ghz quite easily now as well :D

We might be getting a TV out connection or something like that shortly as well :D

I think tomq3 has nearly finished his 3D driver as well (very capable of playing that raging thunder racing game with all the textures working and showing up pretty much) :D

Our spicas will soon be power horses I must say with all of these drivers etc. being completed now, will (should) be just as good as the nexus 1 and HTC desire within the next month, hopefully :D

I will root and flash once leshak has developed a fully working froyo with all the drivers implemented into it (multi touch and the 3d driver etc.) :D

Just follow this site for all the development work going on:

http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/

Can't wait :D, feels like I am getting a new powerful mobile :D

But knowing my luck I will brick my mobile rooting and flashing :p

EDIT: Multi touch has been released :D:

I was thinking of getting a htc wildfire then I seen this thread. For the price this phone seems great I've seen them selling for £120-£160 new or as good as new. Think I'll get one soon.

Yup the samsung spica is much better than the HTC widfire, trust me you will not be disappointed ;)

Still don't get it though, why people who are looking for a budget android mobile go and buy a HTC hero or wildfire when there's this mobile which is much cheaper and much better in nearly every way and also IMO the best android budget mobile that you can buy today.

Here are some more updates from samdroid.net :D :

Samsung i5700 multi-touch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPyRhBtKIRk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Wwl2QeF6vo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lcf1ytGS9U

- Tom3q over at samdroid.net has written a 3D driver from scratch capable of playing any of the 3D games smoothly (only a few problems that needs to be fixed though i.e. missing textures), and it will also speed the mobile up in general things

Samsung i5700 3D driver:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oryj5EfWT88

Flash on the I5700:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pcZMsSjqiQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAugBDXlxTE

- Can be overclocked easily to 1GHz and a bit higher

- A new 2D driver is also going to be released, which will improve the general speed a lot

And some things still to come :D :

- Leshak is currently working on 2.2 (Although the Samsung Spica might get 2.2 sometime between September and December, not 100% sure yet though as a lot of emails from Samsung saying it is and a few saying no)
- The next thing will be freeing up the rest of the unusable RAM

I have said it before and I'll say it again :p, this was a mid range mobile when it was first released, but it has now been converted to a beast :p :D

In all honesty, this mobile is going to be just as good as the nexus 1 and HTC desire I reckon, when everything is complete i.e. the drivers and froyo etc. :D :p

I have finally rooted and flashed smadroid kitchen V2 on , was a fair bit easier than what I thought it would have been :p

Used this guide:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-spica/124299-root-me-baby-one-more-time.html

Haven't noticed too much of a speed difference though, but one thing for sure is that the battery life is amazing now (was good in first place but so much better now :D) and multi-touch is amazing :D (apart from the bugs :p)

Some bugs/problems that I have found though:

1. My mobile data connection seems to be switching from 3G to H very quickly and in some places I am not even getting a connection and I use to be able to in these places before I flashed etc. and sometimes the data connection will switch off completely, which has never happened before (used apn backup and restore for my settings)

2. Location seems to be off by a lot, takes forever to lock in to position, plus in browser (stock) on the google page, I try to update the location but it won't work at all, same with speedtest, the server it chose for me was completely wrong, said it was within 2 miles yet in real life it is about 500 miles away from me, the closer one to me should be within 2 miles yet it said it was about 500 miles away

3. Multi-touch seems quite buggy, in maps after 3 or 4 times of zooming in and you try to zoom in again, it will zoom straight out

4. some apps seem to force close sometimes a fair bit

Question time:

When I set up the market thing, I installed my apps again but I then seen the samdroid tools application and apps2sd was disabled, so therefore all of those apps that were installed before I enabled it would have been put on the internal storage surely? But yet when I go to the internal memory I have got 82.52Mb left, before I rooted I only had 20MB left.

Should I put the dalvik cache on the SD card as well?

What would be the fastest and best thing to do with it?

What keyboards is everyone using?

Can't decide which one is the best to use

O and also the battery meter is so much better :D (green circle dot battery mod), it has a 5 step indicator now :D, much more accurate :D

Hi Mate,

I'm having some trouble rooting the phone. I am following the first part of the tutorial, but I cannot find the files it requires me to choose in Odin. The only one I can find, is the OPS file, which comes with Odin. I've downloaded the files it refers to in the post, but I cannot find them for the life of me!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Edit: I managed to do it! If you follow the above guide, in Odin you need to use the 'One Package' option as the newest file only works with that option.

Lol yeah I was confused about that as well, was wanting to flash the latest one on as well but couldn't find those files either :o :p, so I just stuck with the JC5 or whatever it was originally in that guide :o :p

Thanks for that, now I know what to do next time I flash the newer firmware on :D

By the looks of it, this thread is truly dead now :( lol.

Have all of you with spica moved to the galaxy s or HTC or something else :p

BTW installed those game emulators and they work amazing :D , so smooth etc.

Remember street fighter for the super nintendo, I was playing that on my mobile :D , so cool.

Now I just need to get my self a wii remote and use it as a controller :D as using the screen is kind of hard and annoying :p

Was also playing mortal kombat, robocop and the teenage mutant ninja turtles :D

Still got mine, not been playing with it much lately though been too busy... Still want to check out that multitouch too :D

Yup the multi-touch is very cool :D

Oh, looks like I will be having some fun with my free phone! :D

Yup :D, you sure will be :p

Some more updates :D :cool::

From samdroid.net:

"Hey qbanin, check this out, I've managed to get batteries displayed, even charging ones, but they look very bad and pixellized, but it's just a first beta to see if it shows 1% percent.

Please try it, and tell me if it works, if it does I will try to fix image quality problem, and maybe add some other things then make a final version totally working, and if it doesn't work, I will have to try it another way"

Can't wait :D

So much better just having the 5 step at the minute :D as opposed to what it was before:

I get something similar to that with the Battery Graph app, it only seems to have a handfull of intervals. 100%, 80%, 50%, 30%, 15% and 10%. I thought it was a problem with the app :(

Will post some screen shots of my mobile later showing the super circle 5% battery mod :D

Also, "More resolution of the screen" :D:

http://forum.samdroid.net/f42/more-resolution-screen-2139/

I haven't done this yet as there are some still some bugs/problems with it:

"so, screen looks nice with =140, but some apps need to modification:
browser - artefact in up of adress bar when page download (use also skyfire - not fit in first start, all ok after update from market)
player - artefact if you change a volume
htc keyboard - artefact in some buttons (language choice and hide key)
And some apps not fit to new size (but this is not important), may be fix after update, for me this is: root explorer, aonline radio, defaulf browser selector, home switcher, linpack, wifi tether)"

Enjoy

Have you guys been using the samdroid kitchen? I tried to install the circle battery mod to my 2.1 and it went belly up, I've just cooked a rom in the kitchen and now the portal won't boot, it just loops the boot screens and animations...

I can still get to the recovery menu so it's not serious but just wanted some tips on what fw people have got on successfully and would prefer an update zip rather than messing with odin again.

EDIT: Oooops, wiped data/cache now it works fine :D

And woot multitouch... Only question is now what to do with my old portal...

Any benefits of me flashing cyanogen btw?

Ahhh, too late :p

No idea :p

And yes, you might as well since you have the HD now, you can play around with all the good CM features and also due to the other reasons in the other thread that you asked why it's better than the kitchen :p

Continuing on from the essential apps thread instead of cluttering that I've left CM alone for now as it's not stable enough, reinstalled the kitchen and got a skin on there and it's looking better than ever:

397046308.bmp

Hmmm, people are saying that build of CM has been the best one so far, for everyone even compared to frozen eclair.

Did you do a factory reset?

As that is required in order to get rid of some bugs as well as improving speed and battery etc.

Also if I where you, I would put frozen eclair (FE 9 beta 1) on as well, if CM wasn't working good for you, as it is much quicker than the kitchen version, with many more improvements as well, and also to flash the sound fix (gets rid of any crackling noises, makes the sound much clearer) and under voltaging (improves battery life without affecting the performance at all) zip file.

@all with a spica

Some guy with CM 8 on :D

quadrant708.png

Not bad at all :D

I install the update zip then wipe data/cache/dalvik cache so everything is brand new and fresh.

I might give that frozen eclair a go... I gather it's on samdrod? Also do you know which skin the guy in that screenshot is using? Looks nice.
