Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Generally try and stick to mid level packages that don't mess with the bootloaders. Check you have the active three button modes and grab a copy of the /efs folder first. After that you won't do much harm even if you mess it up. Pretty hard to brick the phone tbh, go for it.

How do I get this folder?

Easiest way, root the phone.

If on 2.1, always liked this one > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403

Then get RootExplorer, must have app imo. Copy entire folder to backup on its removable SD, then put a copy off the phone to be sure.

I flashed my phone to a version of froyo a few months ago, was wondering if I want to update to a newer version, do i go about it the same way as before or do i have to do anything differently?! Sorry if it's been asked/answered before but its a hoooooge thread :D

Why all this talk of 2.3 when Orange users are still stuck on 2.1 without any press release on a potential update to 2.2 :(

I've only just joined this thread and was going to ask why Samsung Kies tells me I already have the latest firmware (2.1 Eclair) when I know 2.2 is out?!? But then saw this comment (I am on Orange) - is this really true?

If so why?!

Just load up the Samsung 2.2. I did that with JPO and it works a treat. I haven't lost anything useful from not being on the branded firmware. Three even let me re-download skype etc and I can still check usage and so on through their mobile site.

Might have had to set the APN settings again, not sure if it was the firmware upgrade or a dodgy widget messing with them.

I've used loads of custom Roms. Mostly the Doc ones. I'm not on the JPU 3.01 one. I've never had any problems or had to put the APN settings in. I always just wait a day from when the rom is released so that any bugs get spotted, and then put it on!

Who has got a video lead for the Samsung?
I know it has got 3 phono's on one end but what has it got on the other?
Is it the small USB plug or a 4 way mini jack?

Look for a Nokia N95 video lead, about a quid.

Have you updated KIES as I thought T-Mo were upto date now.

Personally I used the reg hack and put JPO on, I got sick of waiting for them and

I now dont have the bloatware.

My Galaxy S is unbranded, actually, so I never got any bloatware on it.

I'll try updating KIES.
