Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S & installed the latest Kies version onto my PC, but when i load Kies i get this pop-up about 6 or 8 times until Kies loads fully.

When it`s loaded i can use it with no problems at all, it`s just annoying to have the error. Is there anyway to fix the error. The O/S is 64bit .

I had an issue with the latest kies not wanting to update my phone at all.

Find an older version if you can that seemed to fix any problems I had with it.

I have removed the latest Kies version & put an older one on. It`s working great, no pop-up errors :).Thanks for your advice Rich ;)

Thanks for the feedback above guys. I read on XDA that the email client is much faster too. Will Kies be updating things to 2.2.1 or is it ODIN only at this stage? My phone is XEU.

Cheers man, I'll use the patcher (did it manually last time to get JPO fine). I tried Kies and my XEU phone doesn't have any updates. I'm just backing stuff up now and will try it out.

I just tried it with mine already on JPX, finds the JPX update just fine.

The only thing I will meantion is I had previosly updated with the leaked JPU. A low level package, so the bootloaders were updated with new versions. I had first tried a modified mid level JPU and had issues with high battery drain. The Kies JPX is also mid level.

After 24hrs the battery drain on JPX is excellent, but as I said JPU - BL, SBL, dbdata. If you have battery drain issues, I'm not sure how the bootloaders could effect it, but worth looking at.

I'm really happy with it now, root + circle battery mod + android lockscreen + TouchWizGTG all working on stock JPX.

I'm running JPX now, it's lots more responsive than JPO. The market runs so much nicer for me now too. The facebook for android also now syncs with my contacts again (worked in 2.1 but not 2.2).

I bought pure calendar agenda, but the market doesn't agree. Hmmm.

I find touchwiz pretty nippy too, not sure about LauncherPro now as it's more laggy it seems. Just too iphoney for me, prefer the app drawer and dock on LP.

Overall JPX is looking great so far, never had the phone this fast before as I've never lag fixed due to battery life concerns. Oh, might be worth noting I did a factory reset after upgrade too.

I used Kies, so I guess you're saying I've had a mid-level upgrade. I'll use Odin to flash the whole lot (somehow) if I have battery issues.

Check out the TouchWizGTG, great replacement for the standard TouchWiz. Smoother than the stock TW and can be customised. Look for SGS Tools on the Market, under TW upgrades. The last one listed as Themed with Settings is nice.

Yeah the Kies JPX has no bootloaders included, even if you flashed via Odin. Coming from JPO I would imaging the BL/SBL are just fine. Although the JPU leak did have new versions. I think it would be more of an issue coming from 2.1 A few people are having issues, the drain is quite noticeable. Even on standby idle, it was using a few percent an hour. Where as JPX hardly uses any.

Does flashing through Kies erase your data?

For the first time, using that Kies Reg Patch I can actually update via Kies...

It didn't for me, but I did a factory reset anyway. Of course, your experience may vary.

Thanks fornowagain for the pointers, I'll check them out!

I'll update on the battery situation too, I'm sure there'll be several people here making the same jump as me.

EDIT: I just realised that the Pure Calendar widget just isn't showing on the market any more, that's why it's not installing. A quirk of JPX or something else?

It's not supposed to...

Always best to get full backups. MyBackup Pro works, Titanium had some issues with JPU, don't know about JPX. As said, doing a full system reset, clear cache and format is definitely a must for reliable function after a firmware upgrade. Especially if it's a step upgrade 2.1>2.2>2.2.1

JPX isn't offically out there yet, the Market won't work correctly. Easy enough to edit the .prop and replace it with JPO the last official update.

Using SGS Tools from the Market, then choose .prop Editor, then /system/build.prop and change ro.build.fingerprint to:

samsung/GT-I9000/GT-I9000/GT-I9000:2.2/FROYO/XXJPO:user/release-keys

Then apply market fix from SGS Tools

Some screens of the TouchWizGTG Launcher.

That's cool, thanks.

I have a more pressing issue however. My battery is going down, pretty quick I guess. I had 71 percent after upgrade, now I'm down to 57 in an hour or so, with some playing around of course. Still seems too fast compared to what I've experienced with JPO.

Is there a complete set to flash with JPX or will I need JPU BL etc?

Your method mentioned for post-upgrade - I did a factory reset but it's not thorough. Is formatting the whole lot (fresh) trivial? So that I have a clean JPX install.

Just flash JPU (low) first, then JPX over the top. Always best to start from scratch, format as well. I've seen quite a file structure changes over different builds.

My routine is: Backup large directories like GPS maps etc to PC. Backup apps with data, contacts, links and pairings to external SD. System reset (seems odd, but helps with Kies & Odin freezing). Flash firmware. System reset, clear cache & format. Root. System Reset again (often helps root appear). Copy back large directories. Install/run Busybox installer (root should have done it, but check again), Titanium, Mybackup from apks. Restore all the apps, contacts and pairings etc. Don't backup and restore system data.

Doesn't take much time at all and you won't suffer the FC's and stray files from the last build.

Would this cover the low flash for JPU?

Don't particularly want the lagfix, is it OK to stop after it's flashed and before the voodoo steps?

EDIT: In fact, just up to step 3 should be fine, right?

I9000XXJPU-REV03-PDA-low-CL747761.tar.md5 is the low file needed for the PDA (and the csc, modem of course) You don't need to repartition or the PIT. And again no need for the lagfix. Use the superoneclick root method when its back to JPX, uses the usb debugging to push the su/busybox files. As said above, often needs a factory reset after a flash to get it boot.

Basically, take out SD & SIM. Reset the phone. Load the three JPU files, tick reboot only. Flash. If its starts, great. Turn it off then back to download mode and flash the single JPX tar file over the top. Once it starts, check csc area code, root it then reset & format. Run the busybox installer again just the once and it should all be like new and ready start installing.

I moved over to JPX and LauncherPro isn't work, but I assume it's because it's not suppoed to work with 2.2.1?

Just noticed that Juice Defender is no longer disabling my wifi connection when the screen is locked. This means my battery is eaten up in about 12 hours even on standby. This used to work okay. Does anyone know if this is just something they've made paid-version only in a recent update? Can't seem to find anything on it. It's really annoying...
