Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Do you have to be in the last month of your contract to go through and be offered deals from the retention department? I've got 2 months left on mine, phoned up twice told them I'm cancelling and they just gave me the price didn't try and persuade me otherwise. I've been with them about 5-6 years now.

So, be honest here, what are your views on the build quality of this phone? Having had a play with my friends I didn't think it was great and don't believe it will last 18mnths. However I formed that opinion in about half an hours worth of messing around with it. I really do quite like the phone and seems a neat peice of kit. However I really can't live with a plasticky phone.

I'm umming and arring between this, the Torch, the new Bold coming soon and the new HTC Desire HD which is also coming soon.

I love how light it is. Build quality is very good. It felt very different coming. From HTC and I was convinced at first it my not last long but after having it for 6 weeks aand still using the HTC phone daily I much prefer the Samsung galaxy. Only thing I,'d change is corners. I'd prefer them a little squarer.

Same as TS7, wondering whether to get the Torch or this or the new Desire HD, although as per my earlier post, that seems very similar spec wise to the Galaxy anyway?
Slightly bigger screen and that's it apart from Android 2.2 which the Samsung should get I understand?

The Galaxy does do HD movies doesn't it?

Mine turned up today and I just love the screen, I picked this over the Desire in the end.

Got it for 200mins, 1500texts, 500mb net, 12 months, free phone, £25 a month! aaave it :D

Without me trawling through the entire thread can anyone recommend me a cover.

Currently have a HTC Hero in which I bought a silicone case off ebay and for the entire year I have had my phone its still in perfect condition!

Take it that's through retentions?

I got the Case-mate Barely There, £10 but I like how it doesn't add bulk to the phone

Was through retentions yes

Thank you Hen Dawg. I find the phone very thin and quite slippy in the hand so something with a bit more grip would be nice.

How do I get it to link my facebook pictures to peoples contact pictures?

Facebook account is added and sync'd but for some reason it doesnt appear to update the photos.

I am displaying all my contacts via the "googlemail" display option.

Did anyone order from Orange? It's out of stock at the moment, I'm hoping it's a matter of days not weeks before it arrives, would be nice to know how long others waited.

I've downloaded the one click lag fix, but haven't got very far. I can't seem to enter the recovery mode, looks like my handset is one of the bunch that won't enter it.

Having issues with the fonts on my phone, when i change it and restart it, it still doesn't change? Keeps standard font no matter what?!

Have you installed the one click lag fix? this was a known bug in early releases... checkout the XDA forums, plenty of posts about this error... otherwise.. not sure?

I spoke to Orange on Saturday and it was out of stock then but was told 3k were coming in. Checked the Orange site Tuesday morning and they were showing up.

So, I'm planning to root and install the lagfix using the one on the market, but my phone doesn't allow the 3-key method of booting into recovery mode. Would it be okay to use ROM Manager to reboot into recovery mode and root that way?

Another question, my phone info page says I have JG3 (I think). It's customised with 3 branding etc, would it be beneficial to flash to a generic firmware that's newer at this point before 2.2 is out?
