Samsung Galaxy S24 Family Thread

Fully agreed, I'm not sure why Samsung seem hesitant to fix this issue.

It's been well known for the last few generations , if people are paying £1400 they want performance to be at least equal to phones that are sub £1k.

Maybe they cannot fix it and it's the 200mp sensor that's the issue , it's a bizarre situation really.

It's only now some of the YouTubers that do detailed real life photos comparisons and real users are the issues coming out, you really cannot trust a lot of the early reviews. Thing people need to remember is they want hits and they are also getting a free phone and invite to an event from Samsung, don't want to offend their paymasters
I agree the top youtubers are untrustworthy now. Seen the mkbhd video where hes like why buy anything else. Well because this screen looks bad. How about that? 90% of a smartphones use is in its screen. And sure there are people who want calibrated displays etc. the natural setting could be sufficient for them what about the others who want punchy colours? The whole talk about "it is intended to look like this" is a load of BS. They've clearly messed-up. Maybe a really hard to fix software issue where it means re-building things from the ground up which is not viable. Maybe they might release a fix with the next big Android update many months down the line. Who knows

They will eventually release it, I am sure. Its not too bad if you dont compare side by side. To be fair, I would still keep it over s23u due to flat screen. Flat screen+stylus+snapdragon is the phone I was waiting for a VERY long time. I fully intend to keep it for the duration of the software upgrades.

I agree. Its not too bad with adaptive colour off but i can still feel something is not right without comparing. But largely agree its way more glaring when looking side by side with my s22U. Even reds oranges and greens on my dell work laptop look a bit more saturated. I think it is too flat on the 24u but decided to keep it in the hope that there will be a fix plus like you i wanted the flat screen + camera upgrades / better image processing with the snapdragon vs my previous s22u exynos.

You know what's really interesting...

Open Instagram app, then open notification drawer, doesn't it look so much better / more vibrant?
That's probably the HDR Instagram app at work... and shows the display can be much more vivid

Just done a factory reset, after initially setting up with smart switch, now debloating the phone.

A full fresh install always feels better than copying from another device.

Thanks for the link
Seeing any difference from the factory reinstall? I installed from smart switch (never usually do but did this time) and battery life isn't great , debloated and loads of app restricted

Interesting article, apparently massive sales of the new s24.

Or the sales estimates were quite low ;) hard to believe s24 non ultras are in high demand given exynos and lack of changes. Ultra maybe, due to flat screen and good deal on EPP(cost me like £250 after selling watch, cashback, coupon and s23u, all on 0% finance :D)
Unless people are that stupid and believe that AI BS.

Working in a large enterprise sales org myself, I know all the little tricks on reporting on these things , they've probably massaged the figures.

Obviously a lot of these will be due to the crazy trade ins , discounts , extras etc which impact bottom line . I do wonder how much revenue they made compared to list price of the devices

The other reality is people will buy the s24/+ unlike us commenting in here a lot of people have no idea what a Exynos is and probably don't care. Interestingly though , I see a lot of people rocking Pixel 7a these days, got one for my kids and they are amazing for the price

Why the YouTubers skirted over the camera is beyond me, if I was reviewing the S24 Ultra the camera section would be initiated with some sort of hellish flaming scene provoking anger.

You'd hope it's software, if they can't fix it I'm going to have to get rid, I went along with the hype, it's a great phone better than any previous phones but the camera is taking the mick for 2024, you'd hope a software update would fix it but I doubt it given they didn't do anything re S22 ultra I had as well.

Scared of criticising incase Samsung blacklist them I guess?

Youtubers generally(with few exceptions) are not to be trusted - same with cars/tech anything of value.
There is a pretty big(if not the biggest) car review channel that says no bad word about MG cars during the reviews even though they are complete garbage.

You get some of the guys like The Tech Chap who's supposed to have bought the phone themselves, so basically the non-sponsored videos, should be honest enough, he did cover the blur actually, felt like it wasn't as in depth as should have been, his was morelike "there is motion blue meh but ok", when it should be more like "SAMSUNG AGAIN!, Motion Blur, 2024, what are they doing in their camera research department!?!?!?!?"

I know Samsung (and apple fans) in here are sick of me saying probably, but, if this isn't fixed I can't see any reason I won't be ditching this in favor of iPhone 15 Pro Max, I supposed I could try a different android phone, but the Pixel has issued with its modem and isn't quite as fancy as the S24 Ultra, everything's great, but yeah, the bloody camera.

I got the S24+ rather than the ultra because I far prefer the shape, and have zero use for the stylus. I did look into the Exynos vs Snapdragon beforehand, but from what I can tell, this Exynos is significantly better than the previous one and given my general usage, I really don't think I'll notice any difference.

Though I'm also coming from the OnePlus 7T (the other strong contender I was (/semi still am since my 24+ hasn't arrived yet) is the OnePlus 12) and this will still be a massive upgrade I hope.

I've come the other way (had a 15 pro max) and it's not without its flaws either. There really is no PERFECT smartphone, you have to compromise with things, it's just up to you to decide what compromises work best for you. For me the biggest challenges I had with 15 Pro max is lack of file management and fast charging. Plus after moving back to Android now I quite missed having a universal back button.

Do you use your phone for photos much? If so, how are you finding the S24 Ultra camera as opposed to the 15 Pro Max? And how are you dealing with the motion blurred images?
