Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb Tablet

Can't understand why they wouldn't include an sd card slot in the wifi version.

To be honest I can't why it's such a problem. Just get one with 32GB. You can put an awful lot on one of those. Personally it's fine for my use and I've never gone over 18GB on my Galaxy Tab.

Why include one at all then?

Good question. It's selling point, although just epeen some for geeks, “look at how much memory it’s got”. It’s there because some phones just did not have the memory and required an expansion slot so it’s included in the package. The spec looks good if it’s still there in new devices. There is nothing wrong with having one but if you provide higher spec’d models then why bother. I would have thought that for most of the buying public 16GB would be sufficient. Swings and roundabouts with this topic
.
In this case the desire to have the lightest tablet has probably been the driver for Samsung not to include a slot. I think they've gone in the right direction with this one but should have upped the ante and just gone with 32GB model.

Anyway are you going to go for one of these or something else?

There may still be hope for some of you. From XDA:

I went to the NY City Samsung launch party and things were pretty crazy there.
Blogs and websites say this is the best Android tablet out there, so I don't see why it shouldn't be popular with Devs.... it's certainly better than anything out there.

By the way, I got one of the Samsung guys to CONFIRM me that the 4g version will have a Micro SD port on the top right. (he couldn't say it but he kinda did....with a smile... their job at the event was to push the WIFI version so he couldn't discuss Verizon products...)

Still no news on the UK release :(

Just got this from Vodafone:

An important update regarding the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1v

We’ve decided to add the slimmer Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 to our range, which will now take the place of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1v.

The Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 is packed full of cutting edge technology but is one of the world's slimmest Honeycomb tablets, measuring 8.6mm thick and weighing just 599g. We’ve updated our website with more details, which you can see here

We'll be in touch again soon with more information on pricing and availability.

Thank you

It get it go Settings->About Tablet->Software Update->Check for Updates.

The download is quick but the update is very slow in places.

and a Honeycomb version of Google Books. :D

My only gripe with the update is that they've got rid of the Android wallpapers and added the Samsung ones but I’ve got my old desktop back.

Software details:

Android version
3.1

Kernel version
2.6.36.3

Build number

I wouldn't take the demo unit experience seriously at all, the amount of people that mess about and do stupid things to them and ruin the experience is crazy. My xoom is perfectly smooth and has never frozen up on me one in the month I've had it.

I wouldn't take any of these experiences seriously either. I'm running a 10.1 (with 3.1) and apart from the odd app the daily hands on experience is as one would expect it to be.
