Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb Tablet

Am I reading this right? Samsung have basically redesigned the chassis for 10.1 version?

In one word, yes. It's gone from a brick to a designer tile in two months. You do wonder what they were doing in January. It makes the XOOM look like a brick and has gone after iPad in a big way. It should be a great success.

For both it seems, however it seems Vodafone are getting the 10.1 with the original chassis- at least until the new version is ready.

I find that one very strange if it is true because you'd have to be mad to order the original over the new design. I can't see anyone buying them.

It's worth mentioning both the 10.1 and 8.9 use Samsung's brand new PLS screens! (nextish gen IPS?) At 1280x800 they should be the 'best in class' for a while.
Actually, there was that rumour Apple was going to use it for the iPad 2, maybe Samsung told em to eff off? :D

(It's not as good as sAMOLED+ for those wondering)

It's far too early to draw any conclusions but I will say that the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is a dream to hold.
That could be the one to get? (higher ppi too)

Was going to get an iPad 2 but Samsung have really pulled their finger out with the new chassis. Now the only question is 8.9 or 10.1  :p

so this over the xoom then chaps?

I still think the iPad 2 is the considerably better tablet at the moment, but I'll see how this fares when it is released, its certainly a large step in the right direction to coming up with something that can rival the iPad properly.

Sucks you'll have to wait 2 and a half months (at the least) to find out :(

For someone that claims not to be a rabid apple fanboi, you fail miserably ;):p

But to answer the original question Xoom or this, since spec wise it's pretty identical on paper, I'd say price (-$100 entry price) and possibly the screen technology might tip it in favour of Samsung.. Assuming it can be rooted and modded as easily as the Xoom appears to be..

Have you used one of these Samsung tablets then? No? Thought not.

I'm not an Apple fanboy by any stretch of the imagination but I'm sure you'll be happy to brand me as one instead of making any valid points.

But I'm not claiming X is better then Y without having used either.. :p Oh, the ironing..

The guy asked about a Xoom or this (i.e. which Android Tablet), in a flash of "I'm not an apple fanboy, honestly ;)" you seem to have been suddenly telling him how considerably better the iPAD2 is..

Not only is it not an Android Tablet, but when the iPAD 2 still has plenty of hardware shortfalls to the other two, forgive me for implying that you might just be very aligned to Apple when you use the words 'considerably better'..

I purposefully didn't want to go off at a tangent to show how these new tablets have enough credibility in their specs to at least be considered credible alternatives, all depending on your personal persuasion, but I'm happy to enlighten you if you so wish..

I'm not claiming anything as fact, but personally I feel the iPad2 is better than both of these tablets largely because of its software/app advantage at this present time, which is by far the most important thing for the majority of people.

Again, its not better for everyone depending on your personal needs, but the vast majority of people.

I completely agree they are credible alternatives, I've never said otherwise.

I'm just saying its going to take some time for it to mature as a tablet platform. Just like its taken a while for the iPad to become as good as it has.

I'm getting an iPad 2 soon, but if I like these, I'll get one as well :)

Oh, and to answer the question I quoted earlier, I'd take one of these over the Xoom I think.
