Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Tablet

Well, i've spent 2 days with this tablet now, and I am completely in love with it, in the same way I was in love with my SGS II when I first got it. The screen, despite the mild discolouration on grey backgrounds on the bottom 30% or so, is magnificent. It's like the SGS II but twice as big with twice the resolution... and colours, videos, webpages, text etc all look sublime. It is imo uniquely amazing in the tablet world.

Sound is average, both stereo speakers are at the bottom of the unit when held in portrait mode, and are average loudness. For the slimness of the device, they are as you would expect. Not overly meaty, but not tinny either.

Battery life is phenomenal... I went through a long day of sporadic fiddling and browsing on 3G today, email and Facebook syncing regularly, and its still on 33% 14 hours later. Yesterday, I abused in on Wi-Fi only for a whole day and still had around 20-30% to spare. With "normal" usage, it should last 2 days before a charge. Used very sparingly with power conservation in mind, maybe a week or so.

Software-wise, Honeycomb is Honeycomb... no matter the processor it lags with default TW, and even an eensy a bit even with another launcher installed. C'est la vie, and ICS should fix this. Either way it's not to bad at all, and I like the default email app as well as all the other cool tablet optimised apps you can find. It really enhances the Android experience.

I have a 32GB MicroSD card coming next week, and will buy a case and screen protector for it as soon as I see one I like.

All in all I am so glad I made this purchase, it's awesome, simply awesome.

Oh, and one more thing... 7.7" is imo the PERFECT size for a tablet, and really does make a difference over 7" in everyday use when browsing and reading. Still fits in my coat pocket too, try that with a 10-incher. ;)

Guys, just buy this thing and then test it under the DSA... if you dont like it then send it back. Really, it is the dogs danglies and im surprised more of you havent picked one up yet!

I think i might pick one up to replace my ageing Tab 7, which i've got running CM9 so it'll last me for a short time while i'm making a decison on a new tablet.

Tbh i'm a bit dissappointed with how Tegra 3 turned out, GPU wise it's about the same as the one in the S2 and in this, i havent seen an app that needs quad core.

I'll see what tech Samsung has at MWC and their own event then make a decision.

I'm pretty sure you can only return electronic goods if it's faulty, not change of mind.

Well it's like that where I work anyways (major phone retailer). Only time I've seen an exchange or refund is when the customer has been mis advised or circumstances where manager authorises it.

Think of it from a seller's point of view. Can they still expect to resell it at full value after you've had all your oily hands on it?

you can't return it unless there's a fault, can you?

Richdog mentioned DSA or to be correct, DSR - Distance Selling regulations and sending back. Applies to mail order or online purchases only and allow buyers to return goods for a refund (usually excluding delivery charges) within a short time period (7 days I think).

Erm yes, that's the law and has been for some years now. See the post above me, or Google the Distance Selling Act for further info.:)

Just tested this out as a SatNav device, and can confirm that this is one area is excels in. GPS locks on inside the car within 5 seconds, and the screen is simply magnificent for this task... colours are bright and vivid, viewable from any angle, and it is glare-free. It's also not too big like you'd expect, and makes for very easy viewing.

Aaawww, I feel so bummed to post this, cause I am otherwise absolutely in love with my galaxy tab 7.7, but I feel a bit iffy about the battery life. I switched to galaxy tab from Asus Transformer TF101 and I actually feel like the battery on my previous tablet lasted waaaaaay more, even with the wifi switched on permanently.

On my Galaxy Tab 7.7 3g I can easily lose 20% of battery power during a half an hour of browsing the internet on low brightness, with wifi, gps, bluetooth and background sync switched off...that is hardly the "phenomenal battery performance" mentioned in all those reviews.

I use ADW launcher, not so many widgets, I dont even play music, games or video and still the battery will not last through the day at all...I mean..I only would use it for reading an ebook, browsing the web and facebooking 1 hour on a bus in a morning and another hour in the evening....but no chance...the battery wont last that long.

It would exhaust the first 40% on my way to work, and come down to 30% during the day (when used very rarely). I can easily last the whole afternoon with switching the battery saver ON every time I am not using the tablet, but to resort to that, and to switch everything off and lowering the brighteness to miminum just to be able to browse internet for an hour and lose almost 50% of battery power by doing so, feels really desperate. I still dont want to believe I am the unlucky one to get a bad unit with a dogdy battery

...what should I do to make sure tis not the case? Is there a test I can run to see for sure if I have the battery which drains the same way as the others or not??? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You clearly (sorry, but common sense should really kick in and tell you that its not normal based on your post and a read of other user feedback on XDA forum) have a faulty unit or major software issue, as mine last all day with heavy browsing and sync usage... 2 hours browsing loses me around 20% battery at the most. Have you tried a factory reset? Are there updates available by Kies? If neither of those work then get your unit replaced, that's what warranty is for. :)

Hmm Im wanting one of these pretty badly. Can't seem to find this less than 420 though from an amazon merchant. If it was amazon themselves at this price I'd have had it. Might wait a few months for it to settle down.

The Wifi + 3G version can be had for about £418 with express shipping from hong kong from a website with really good reviews (hundreds) from uk buyers. Or even the Wifi only version for £339

Enjoy the VAT charges when HMRC decide to check your package? Or even worse if the retailer actually labels you're package as having $600 worth of goods in it.

If you look around you can find a whole thread full of praises from uk buyers since Jan this year for the amazing service from this company and none of them mentioned getting a nasty charge of VAT which most people would be worried about.

Some of these companies are quite cheeky and label them as very low value items, which is the case with this one.
